Muth's Candies is a heritage establishment making some of the best candies in town. They're well known for their modjeskas, a soft caramel with a marshmallow center, that was invented here in Louisville in the 1800's. They also make a variety of other candies, both chocolate and not. We bought a stash to share with family, and every piece was excellent. We purchased toffees, vanilla caramels, honey comb, modjeskas, Peanut butter squares, sour worms and gummy frogs, and an 8 piece box of bourbon barrels made with Very Old Barton, all for $30.
They also make Easter candy (where I'll be shopping this year), and have a variety of wedding/party printables and packages. Their prices are better than fair, and they seemed you have a good selection.
I saw some complaints on another site that the store is old and needs to be renovated. I do not agree. I like the antique ambiance of the store. Not everything needs to...
Read moreMuth's candy is the very best candy in the world in my opinion! Their chocolate is to die for! You can't go wrong with anything at all that you get because it's all delicious. I love their double dipped chocolate malted milk balls, but my absolute favorite is something you can only get here and nowhere else. They are called Modjeskas and they are the best piece of chocolate heaven. They are marshmallows covered in caramel and dipped in chocolate. The candy recipe was a gift to the Muths from a candy maker who came to America in the 1800's. The story is on their website and a very interesting read. You can't get Modjeskas anywhere else. You MUST try them. They opened in 1921 and my dad started getting candy for Valentines day for us kids since the 1950's and my siblings and I have continued the tradition. They are the very best there is. Try it for...
Read morePeople forget how much wax goes into chocolate here in the US, to ship it and store it. But Muth's remembers, and refuses to participate- without wax, their chocolate will melt in your hand AS QUALITY CHOCOLATE SHOULD. A venerable chocolatiere here in Louisville, it strikes the right balance of tradition and innovation- Chocolate and Gummy, fruit and nut and even licorice. Their counter staff skews younger and alternative, but attentive and knowledgeable, and the juxtaposition of their bright eyed enthusiasm and the museum of antique confection technology that line the walls just work. There are no wrong choices, but let's be real- the caramel and marshmallow Majestic* is where it is at. Go, get your favorite, but grab at least a few of those at the check out too. (*how it is pronounced, but spelled in a... Czech?...
