There are many places to rent bikes on Mackinac Island, so I read the reviews and decided upon Mackinac Island Mobility & Bicycle Rental, which was conveniently located near the hotel where I stayed. It's just off of Main Street north of Great Turtle. The owner greeted me right away and got me set up with an Island Comfort Special multi-speed cruiser.
They swipe your credit card but do not charge you until you return the bike. My bike was $19/hr, and it's pro-rated after the first hour. They provide a bike lock, bottle of water, and bike map and make sure the bike is the proper fit for you before you take off. They did not offer me a helmet, but it looks like they are available upon request. As the name suggests, they also have mobility scooters which is an excellent way for people to see the island if mobility is a challenge.
In all my visits to Mackinac Island, I had never biked the island. What a beautiful way to explore! There is SO much more to this place than the busy Main Street. I thoroughly enjoyed my ride on the Trek bicycle. It was easy to ride, but I did notice it was heavy enough that the kickstand didn't keep it upright very well the times I did stop to soak in the views.
At the end, they gave me coupons to some great local businesses, Great Turtle and Sanders.
If you visit in the fall, I'm told the bikes are on sale, if you'd like to take one home with you.
Will definitely be using this...
Read moreFrom start to finish, this was a great experience! Hannah was friendly and helpful at check in and check out. I don't know the young man's name who helped me adjust the bike, but he was also very friendly and helpful in making me feel comfortable with the bike and the ride. The bike was in great condition and very easy to ride. The bike had a basket, came with a bottle of water and a lock. I did the 8 mile M-185 loop and it was very enjoyable. Wooded area on one side and the beautiful lake on the other. I would recommend this bike rental company to anyone and would use them...
Read moreSuch a blessing to find them off the Main Street. The owner (wish I would have gotten his name) was such a cool guy to deal with. He made everything sooo easy and got all 6 of us on bikes and rolling within minutes. Answered all questions and was so friendly. Staff was top notch as well. Will surely use them again and not one of the Main Street ones. Plus his recommendation and honesty food a lunch afterwards was perfect. The brewery and distillery right next to them was top notch. Food and beer was perfect. Service...
