We used look forward to our annual trip to Mackinac Island and Cloghaun B&B and loved the laid back atmosphere the hotel and Island provide, but rates of rooms have increased and service and hospitality has decreased. We felt nickled and dimed after this 3 day stay. 2 of 3 in our party are now looking for other accommodations on the Island for their next visit.
The Clohaun has charming guest rooms, relaxing front porch and lovely gardens. Although, Cloghaun is now requiring a 3 day stay during race week (something new) and they regulates the start of your day by having to schedule a breakfast reservation the day before, for a very under par breakfast with small portions and limited variety for discretionary eaters. (One in our party can't eat eggs, we asked, but other options were not available.) Some of our party even choose to dine elsewhere the second morning to get a good meal. The afternoon tea is no longer offered but ice water, cookies and crackers mix was available.
Housekeeping has been cut back, fresh towels were never brought to the room, beds were never made, although we we told we could "help ourselves to the supply closet" if we need something.
You can unwind and watch the carriages pass by after your day of walking and biking the shops and sites of Mac Island. We love the location on Market St., close to everything but off of the congestion of Huron St.
The Cloghaun has made many improvements with rearranging antique furniture in many of the rooms, updating baths, and new lawn furniture. They achieve taking you "back in time" by not offering most guests access to media, unless you stay in one specific suite that has a TV. (The TV used be be available to all guests.) The channel weather is no longer offered in the dining room during breakfast, but guest wifi is available, so guests are truly caught "Somewhere in Time" at the historic Cloghaun Bed...
Read moreFrom the moment I arrived at Cloghaun, I felt at home. The house radiates a comforting warmth, and the spirit of hospitality is present in every detail. The location canât be beat; Market Street is where you want to be. Each morning began with a wonderful breakfast, lovingly prepared and served by Clover and Carlene. Their attention to detail and the delicious offerings truly set the tone for each day. My room (#9) was impeccably clean. The dĂ©cor strikes the perfect balance between historic charm and modern comfortâand the bed was so comfortable. Itâs clear that great care has been taken to update the property while preserving its incredible 141-year-old charm. Itâs the perfect blend of modern conveniences and historical charm. Afternoons on the front porch were a highlight for me. The inviting ambiance made it the perfect spot to relax, soak in the atmosphere, and enjoy the gentle sounds unique to Mackinac Island with horse drawn carriages. Cloghaunâs legacy is truly special, now in the capable hands of Sue, Andy, and Patrickâthe fifth generation of owners and operators. Their dedication and love of Cloghaun continue the tradition established by their ancestors. I have no doubt that Jim, their dad would be so proud of the way theyâre caring for and managing this beloved home, ensuring guests feel the love and history that fill its walls. If youâre searching for a bed and breakfast that honors its roots, delivers comfort, and welcomes you like family, Cloghaun is the place. My heartfelt thanks to everyoneâespecially Clover and Carleneâfor making my stay...
Read moreWe just spent four wonderful nights at the Cloghaun and could not have been more pleased. Our rooms were spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully furnished with beautiful period pieces. The bedding was soft and comfortable, ensuring restful nights. Each morning we were greeted by cheerful and attentive hostesses who served delicious breakfastsâalways with plentiful proteins, fresh fruit, and a lightly sweet baked good. The coffee was excellent, and I especially enjoyed sipping it from a china cup while looking out at some of the prettiest gardens on the island. We often overheard other tourists admiring the Cloghaunâs gardens as âthe best,â and we couldnât agree more.||We loved relaxing on the front porch and meeting fellow guests, who were all a joy to get to know. Even after seeing other accommodations available on the island, our family would choose the Cloghaun again without hesitation. Our daughter was delighted by the extra bonus of playing the antique piano, and I loved exploring the many photos and keepsakes that tell the homeâs story and the lives of those who lived there. It was especially meaningful to see how the house has been lovingly preserved through five generations of the same family, with photos showing its changes over time.||The thoughtful touches made our stay feel extra specialâthere was always cold water, and often teas and homemade baked goods available in the afternoons. From beginning to end, our time at the Cloghaun was filled with beauty, comfort, and a sense of history. A truly...
