The Big Store — Local services in Mackinac Island

We usually love this shop, but I we will not be returning. A person that works there, by I believe the name of Tim, was very, very, very rude- verbally and physically abusive. I picked up a shirt, saw there was a flaw, refolded it, and picked up a new one to look at. This man threw down a pile of shirts, and started swearing at me and calling me unrepeatable names- he came over, ripped the shirt out of my hands. Still swearing and irate he went slamming out the back door. All the people around me were in shock, and saying sorry to me. When the man came back my husband told the man to apologize to me, and he refused. He started screaming and swearing. Slamming stuff around and then yelled that he was closing the store! He tried locking some of us in, and pushing some of us out! The whole thing was insane! I tried to talk to a manager or owner, but apparently there is no manager and the owner is never there! The older man working behind the counter was very unprofessional and quite frankly embarrassed himself. We asked if they accepted returns and they said yes. (Mind you, this was the same day that we bought the merchandise) We got started and put a few things on the counter and then he asked why we were returning. We simply had changed our minds and apparently that was not a good enough reason. He got all upset and flustered and pushed the clothes back across the counter and said ‘well that’s just too bad.’ Thankfully there was another lady there that worked very quickly to de-escalate the situation and proceeded with our return.

They accept returns. It should have been a very simple process. I work hard for my money and can spend it how I choose. If I could give zero stars to him, I would. Definitely will not visit this...

The Big Store is located on Mackinac Island and has many souvenirs at competitive prices. I usually am able to find sweatshirts at reasonable prices, but they also a plethora of souvenirs available to meet everyone’s needs. The store personnel is nice. You can return anything as long as you have the receipt. My only complaint is the amount of time it takes to check out of the store. The interior of the store looks like a Goodwill or flea market, but I don’t let that stop me from shopping. If you want to use your American Express card, there is a $50 credit limit.
