Caton Law Firm destroyed our family. Karen Caton is the attorney that drafted the Family Trust; but 15 yrs later when our family member died, it was Cate Carter who represented the family jointly. There was a "scrivener's error" in the Trust that excluded our daughter from the Trust due to an age stipulation for a step-child to be considered a beneficiary. Cate Carter is the one who advised the family of the mistake. However, family members began bickering - trying to exclude our daughter entirely from future income in the Trust and wouldn't agree to accept there was an error. Rather than standing up for the terms as written in the so-called IRREVOCABLE Trust and correcting the mistake Caton Law Firm admitted they made, Cate resigned and told us to go hire separate attorneys because she didn't do litigation and refused to correct the error before resigning - which she COULD have done by signing an Affidavit. The family was tied up with a lawsuit until I finally prevailed exactly 2 yrs after the death of our loved one when Caton Law Firm FINALLY signed the Affidavit. --- JUST BEWARE. This law firm might be able to draft a fancy worded legal document that makes you feel secure that everything is taken care of when you die. BUT, read it carefully. If there is an error, Caton Law Firm simply walks away and you're on your own. I've never met Karen (it's my understanding she is semi-retired). Cate was very sweet and mild-mannered when we met and I think she intended for things to work out; but the family feud was far beyond Cate's capabilities. The MOST important part of creating a TRUST - is to be able to completely TRUST the TRUSTEES because THEY are the ones who are in FULL control. All you can do as a beneficiary is file a lawsuit against them if they won't adhere to the terms as written and attorneys don't want to correct their mistakes or have to face a judge or defend themselves or you in a court battle - so they walk away. READ EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU SIGN. And, try to find an attorney that will LEGALLY correct any mistake they realize they made rather than desert you. The costly lawsuit with separate representation would have never happened if Caton Law Firm would have been willing to correct their own mistake and stand firm that the Trustees adhere to the terms written in the IRREVOCABLE Trust. (BTW, don't believe it even if they 'say' it's Irrevocable - because once you die, you no longer have any way to be sure things happen the way you intended. Things are NOT...
