Something very strange happening with management at PressBox. My wife and I toured a 2 bedroom apartment on a Thursday afternoon. We submitted our online application approximately 3 hours later (~5p). Following submitting our applications, I left a message with Robert on when we could expect to hear back and how he suggest we proceed (we knew this floor plan would be in high demand so we wanted to complete the necessary steps as quickly as possible). Friday at noon, I had not heard back so, I called again. Robert informed me that he had submitted our application and that it usually takes a few hours for them to result. No problem at all. However, we again never heard back on this. The following Monday at 9:30a, I called to follow up on our application. Robert said that we had been approved and that he was drafting our lease agreement and would send it over as soon as he was done. Awesome. It's now Wednesday morning at 10:30am and I have yet to either hear an update on the lease agreement or receive the lease agreement. So, I call again. Robert informs me that another prospective tenant had signed for that floor plan "while he was drafting our lease." The handling of our application was either dishonest or simply inconsiderate. From Thursday afternoon to almost one week later on the following Wednesday morning, I received no update from Robert that I did not have to call and request myself. According to Robert's own admission, he chose to sit on the fact that we were not the ones getting the apartment from Monday morning to Thursday morning, thus making it extremely difficult to believe that this process was truly first come, first serve. Disappointed is an understatement.
UPDATE
Robert reached out to shed some light on the situation and to apologize. He admitted to mishandling the communication of what was happening with our application and failing to keep us up-to-date on the status of the apartment. We talked for about 15 mins during which he took full responsibility for our less than ideal experience. He assured me that communication during this process is something he would work to improve upon in the future. He didn't have to take responsibility for the situation like he did- in fact I don't believe many people in his position would have. He also went as far as to refund our application fee. I am left with a much better feeling about Pressbox- whether I become a tenant or not. It seems management really cares about...
Read moreI lived in Pressbox Lofts for a year, and it is my absolute favorite apartment experience to date. I only left my apartment to move to another city for a job opportunity, so it was incredibly bittersweet. Living in this community (because it is very much a community) was my most cherished time in Memphis. Robert, the property manager, as well as Ward, the head of maintenance were incredibly attentive and hospitable. I also frequented the coffee shop downstairs, where the smiling faces were also just as attentive and hospitable. On top of this, the building is stunning and full of charm. It is well maintained and clean. If you stumble across my review, I would tell you without reservation that this is one of the best places to live in Memphis. I miss it dearly, but I'm glad that someone else gets the opportunity to experience it in my...
