Curry n Jerk @ Bon Ton — Restaurant in Memphis

I try to find silver lining's whenever unplesant things happen but with this restaurant, the experience was just plain bad.

We enter in and the bartender guy directs us. We get seated between 3-4 different parties, and we're in immediate line of sight to entire staff. We look through the menu, and slowly realize it's been 10, 15, 20, and 25+ minutes and nobody has offered water or come to take our order. Our body language was normal and we calmly looked over the menu.

At a point, the couple sitting next to us comes up and tells me the food's fantastic. I end up asking them how long they waited until they ordered, he's like "10 minutes". Then he immediately hollers at the lead hostess to come to us. The hostess seems a bit annoyed that nobody waited us. I straight up tell her it's been 25 minutes or so. This shouldn't be news, there's several staff members going back and forth socializing with other parties and waiting them (it's not like the restaurant had 50+ people). There were 10 other people max. Many empty seats. The lead hostess did not seem fully problematic and maybe they had new staff but this isn't rocket science.

Do not get me wrong, I understand restaurants get busy but a simple " we'll take your order in 30 minutes, we're a little backed up right now " would've sufficed but that never happened. The food itself was flavored well but that doesn't make up for lackluster service.

Also, to top everything off, there's forced gratuity but for what? We legitimately didn't even know who our server was. So who are we tipping? The lead hostess seemed like she was doing online orders and welcoming folks in only, but she ended up waiting us?whilst another lady dropped off the food tray?

The tall lady who dropped off the food, I asked her a question regarding the jerk vegan burger pattie and if it's beyond meat, she's like " I have no idea ". She never came back for any confirmation or anything. Not to mention, a new party came in after our food arrived, and they were taken care of way faster than we were.

DO NOT COME HERE!! THE OWNER IS A JERK AND A LIAR!!! This was by far the WORST restaurant experience I have ever had. We came here tonight with family who were in town for the family reunion. One of the family members wanted some Caribbean food and this place was one of the first on Goggle Maps. We read the reviews and decided to go. The service was great, the drinks were good, and the food was good. Our waitress thoroughly explained the menu. Everything was going well until I found hair in my cooked down chicken. I have long hair and I checked to make sure it wasn’t mine. It wasn’t mine because when my husband grabbed the hair it was completely wrapped around the chicken and covered in the sauce. He could not get the hair out of the dish. I was so disappointed. I did not want my meal for free or discounted, I just wanted the kitchen to remake the food. My husband took the plate to one of the workers and less then 5 minutes later, the owner comes out and says the he will discount the food, but said that the hair was completely dry and that everyone in his kitchen has short hair. Huh?!?! I was totally shocked. WHO DOES THAT!?!? He insinuated that I placed the hair in the food. Even after the worker who took the plate from my husband told him that it was wrapped in the chicken and covered with sauce. Let me repeat! I just wanted them to remake the food. I did not want the dish for free. He offered no apology and one of his workers from the kitchen came out of the kitchen with dreads. So not all of the kitchen workers have short hair. This place just opened about a month ago. On a Saturday night, it was not crowded we were the only patrons in the restaurant. If this is how they treat customers, the place will not be open long. I’ve ate here before when they had the other location. The food was good. I ordered the jerk wings and plantains. The Plantains were fresh the first time. I decided to go again for my birthday, and the food was very different. However, the waiter was the same as before. She tried to get over on my friend with the tip. She did it the second time with my mom. She didn’t deserve a $20.00 tip. The customer should be allowed to decide what to tip and what not too. They definitely need to have a talk with her about getting over on people. As far as the food, the plantains were very old and hard to chew. The vegan jerk burger was just a beyond style burger with jerk sauce, and it didn’t really have much flavor. The yuca was terrible. I personally believe they would be doing the customer and themselves a favor by just taking it off the menu. They know nothing about how to cook yuca. It was a brickkkkkkkkkkkk…. I mean literally. The only thing that was good were the pastas and the jerk wings were the same as before. Oh the macaroni was just pasta with cheese sprinkled on top. Plus, instead of bringing our food out all at once, there was a 5 -7 min gap between each meal. Which means one person eating while the others are still waiting for their food, so I wasn’t a big fan of this structure. If your going to visit maybe just try the pasta.
