My husband and I took our first trip to Moab UT this summer and booked Cliffs & Canyons for a private day trip. We booked a private 1/2 day rock climbing tour for the morning and a private 1/2 day canyoneering tour for the afternoon. I reached out to the business prior to our trip to ask if it was possible to be picked up/dropped off at our hotel since we took the Amtrak/Moab Express into Moab and didn't have our own method of transportation in Moab. Since our hotel was so close to the main office they agreed to transport us, I was really grateful for this because otherwise we wouldn't have been able to do this trip (transportation in Moab is extremely limited, we had no idea before we arrived how hard it would be to get around)!
Kate was our guide for the day - we loved working with her! She was super laid-back, knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. Being that we've never been to Moab before, we didn't have a great sense of where we wanted to go for our rock climbing trip. Kate discussed our interests/abilities and offered to take us to her favorite climbing spots. We warmed up on a short climb on Wall Street, then she took us down the road to a really cool intro crack climb, and finally we drove out to Pocket Rocket for our last climb. We had a great time at all three locations, I can see why they are her favorite climbs! Kate is a fantastic guide and we felt completely safe on all the routes she brought us to. After we finished climbing she brought us to see some dinosaur tracks and petroglyphs, they were super cool to see up-close. Because we didn't have our own transportation and were staying just outside of the town, Kate was nice enough to offer to drop us off in town so we could walk around the 'main street' and have lunch at a local restaurant. It was nice to be able to see the town and get some non-hotel food! After lunch we met back up with Kate and she drove us out to Chamisa Canyon for some canyoneering. Our hike into Chamisa Canyon was super scenic, Kate pointed out local landmarks and taught us about the environment. We were lucky the water in the canyons was only about waist deep so we were able to carry our bags over our heads while we walked through. We wore fast-drying clothes so after we finished repelling and made it back to the van we were already pretty dry. I brought a change of clothes with me just incase but didn't end up needing it. Kate dropped us off at our hotel at the end of the day and gave us some advice on where to go for future climbs - again we were so happy to have pick up/drop off for this trip, it really wouldn't have been possible for us otherwise!
All-in-all we had a fantastic experience with Cliffs & Canyons! Booking a private trip enabled us to have a more flexible itinerary during our tours and more one-on-one guidance our tour guide - so if you can afford it, I'd highly recommend booking a private tour. We would absolutely book another tour with Cliffs & Canyons if we came back to Moab - and hopefully we'd be able to have Kate as our guide again too! Thank you for the unforgettable...

My fam (husband and I, both 51, and our 20 yr old son) went on the “Ephedra’s Grotto” ½ day canyoneering trip. Patrick guided us. Molly (I think? I’m so bad with names, sorry!) shuttled us. Peanut greeted us and gave our packs a sniff to be sure remembered to pack snacks. If you’re a Hobbit like me, do bring extra snacks for second breakfast, elevensies, lunch, and tea. :)
Our 3-4 hour adventure was incredible. Some of the most beautiful spaces on this earth.
Patrick was super knowledgable about Moab, its governance, watershed, and sustainability (my questions); and also of course about the area’s geology, land formations, and history (um, also my questions). AND he was super adept with technical and safety skills.
He was attuned to everything - weather conditions, where the sun would be at different times of our hike, who else was around, and I swear he has a magic power because somehow, within minutes, he had an accurate reading of each of our levels of fitness, confidence, humility, curiosity, interest, and knowledge.
I want to be sure to say that yes, the rappels ARE very high, but/and you can do it. I fully admit I started to spiral when I clocked the first rappel — I mean I was thinking, “Nope nope nope. This is a HELL NO” — but Patrick was totally chill and kind, talked me through it, suggested I go in the middle of the pack, and then everything proceeded fine, with no shame, judgment, or dramas. Looking back, I’m not sure how he did it?
Anywho, my point is, you CAN be a little bit scared or nervous but you can still do this. (Maybe not if you are deathly scared of heights, though.) You don’t have to be a paragon of outdoorsy fitness; you DO need to be able to hike for a couple of hours on uneven terrain and do a little bit of rock-hopping.
This was one of the favorite of our family’s many adventures !
Thank you, Patrick, Molly, Peanut and everyone at Cliffs...
Read moreI came to Moab for rock climbing in the month of October 2017 from all the way india. I climbed with super energetic and very friendly Heidi Stancke as my guide.i was there for six days out of which I climbed for 4 days with her. On first full rock climbing day we climbed in what is called ‘ the wallstreet ‘. Where I warmed up on short open face and two crack climbs.on the same day Heidi took me on a single pitch chimney climbing rock called molar and the route called ‘ root canal’. As Heidi got some confidence in me we went and climbed ‘ south six shooter ‘ near the Indian creekon the second day.It was an easy climb and Heidi was ready to take me to ancient art. On the third day we went to fisher towers and quickly climbed ‘ Ancient art ‘ early in the morning and were back in the town before early afternoon. The same day Heidi managed to take me through ‘ Arches national park’ as I had not much time left in Moab for me. The fourth day was most important for me as I pestered Heidi to climb Castleton tower with me.She agreed to it and early morning we set out to climb the legendary Castleton tower. We went quite early still there was one party ahead of us on Kor Inglis route , which is one of the top 50 climbs in North America. Heidi climbed like a lizard on the tower followed by me , grunting and squeezing through the chimneys, finally to emerge on the top. It was a great feeling of fulfilment and satisfaction to have completed my goal to climb in USA. Heidi is an excellent guide and for those four days I felt as if was climbing with my regular climbing partner and friend. The staff at the office were equally friendly and took good care of my programme. Thank u Heidi and thank u Moab cliffs and canyons to make my visit memorable. Dr. Sagar...
