7-Eleven — Local services in New York

This is my local 711 and I've been a customer of this location for many years. There have been on numerous occasions, including tonight as the most recent example, where I was charged a sales tax on tax exempt foods. I purchased (2) two bags of potato chips totaling to $4 bucks and a paper bag for $0.25 cents. I gave the clerk $5.25 and expected to get a dollar back but he handed me change. I asked for the receipt (which they usually don't give) and saw that the clerk charged sales tax on my chips. A couple of cents is not much but that isn't the point. If they're doing this for every other customer, it adds up and what they're doing is illegal under sale tax laws in NY.

After a few verbal exchanges and how I told him explicitly that you cannot charge sales tax on potato chips, the clerk retorted by saying how it's out of his power because the machine he used to scan the chips says it eligible for sales tax. At that point, I just gave up and walked out. I plan on reporting this to 311 and/or BBB.

Just putting this out there because I've been a customer of this location for so many years and enough is enough. For other patrons in the area, keep an eye out on how much you're charged regardless if it's a few measly cents... the principle of the matter is...

Their card machines are constantly not working. My debit card almost never works at any Seven Eleven location and after speaking with friends they have all said the same. Today however I had the worst interaction by an employee. I was trying to check out and an older man (employee) gets upset because my card doesn't work on the machine. So I tried several times and even tried the pass option and it still wouldn't work. He starts screaming "its your chip" over and over. I said sir no its your machine. This happens only at your locations. So I asked him to try on the other register. He replies Oh that one doesn't work. So I said well then its safe to say this one doesn't either. There was a line behind me and a customer right behind me said it happens to him all of the time. In the past I simply walked away and the employees at other locations were sincere about it but this man yelling at me and shaming me for having a "bad card" really made me livid. He made it seem as if I did not have money when in fact its a machine error. I've occasionally come to this location since its close to work but will not return after being spoken to in that...

I go here weekly. They tend to have better prices/deals on items than other 7/11 stores in the area. I've gone to the one on 1st avenue and i believe 88th street and they never have any of the energy drink sales that this location has. If you're looking for all those 2 for 1 deals on Red Bull, Bang Energy, Reign Energy,etc. this loation carries a large selection and there's ALWAYS multiple options on sale.

Sometimes the line can get a little long and often people will stand in the wrong area to wait if the line is short so I'd just take a look near the coffee area to make sure nobody is waiting there. The line forms in front of the register along the hot food area with clearly marked 6 feet away signs on the floor.

You can get keys copied here, play the lotto, and they offer important items like face masks and assorted device chargers.

Overall I would give this place 4 stars. I would give it 5 buts sometimes their Credit/Debit card machines can run into issues pretty often from what i've seen so I would just bring along some cash,...
