One day I was strolling thru the streets of Flushing as I always do and was excited to see a 99 ranch. They have some good sales going on and the variety was decent. I thought this would become my new go to shop, especially since they have parking.
So the next day I came back with family and purchased over $400 worth of groceries, two cart full. But at the door I was not allowed to push the carts to my car, at THEIR parking lot.
Their side street was narrow and super busy and had lots of incoming commercial trucks. So i had to park at the fire hydrant across the street. Since the doorman wouldn’t allow me to take the cart beyond the store’s doors I had to take each grocery item by hand and run it to my car across the street. This whole ordeal took 3 hours. 1 hour on shopping. Two hours on getting and loading my car.
Some people might say, “well it’s store policy. They don’t want people stealing their carts.” And i argue that it’s THEIR parking garage. And the people working at the garage said to me, “you CAN bring your cart to load your car but you MUST bring the carts back to the store.” There are signs at the garage saying so too. So I was confident i could do so.
Worse yet, while my mom was waiting for me to get the car, the doorman kept laughing at her!
Suffice to say there’s no amount of grand opening excitement and good sales that’s worth the 3 hours of hassle and having my family ridiculed at the place we spent good money to support.
Oh, BTW, the parking is free for two hours when you purchase a $50+ at the grocery but they do...
Read moreIt was my first time experiencing something like this! No matter which supermarket I go to, even large supermarkets or other public places, whenever I bring my small dog with me, I always keep her inside my stroller (a box-shaped one) with the lid closed. This way, she won’t come out, won’t disturb anyone, and won’t cause inconvenience in public spaces.
However, yesterday at this supermarket, the security guard shouted at me very rudely, saying “No dog! No dog!” I explained that my small dog was inside the stroller with the lid closed, and I was just going to buy a few things. He then asked me in a very impolite tone, “Service dog?” When I said “No,” he repeated, “No dog, no dog.”
This kind of behavior is really unfriendly to people who bring their pets. I understand that many places don’t allow pets and that rules can vary by store, but the attitude really matters.
Usually, I already feel that their prices are a bit higher compared to other supermarkets, and the layout of the store is honestly very messy and disorganized. Items are not neatly arranged, categories are confusing, and the same products randomly appear in different areas, which makes shopping frustrating and overwhelming. But since it’s close to my home, I sometimes shop there for convenience. After what happened yesterday, I feel even less willing to go back.
If a place occasionally receives one or two bad reviews, that’s understandable and normal. But if negative experiences are frequent, it only shows that there are far more bad experiences than good ones...
Read moreThe newly opened 99 Ranch Market in Flushing brings a much-needed addition to the neighborhood’s supermarket scene, offering a wide range of Asian groceries and essentials. As with any new store, there are still a few wrinkles to iron out, but overall, it shows great promise.
The selection is fairly solid most of the everyday staples you’d expect are well stocked, and there are some unique specialty items that you probably won’t find at other local markets. This makes it a great spot for discovering new products or finding familiar ones from different regions of Asia.
Price-wise, it lands somewhere in the middle. It’s not the cheapest in the area, but it’s not overpriced either, fairly competitive and reasonable considering the variety available.
Now for the cons: there’s clearly some maintenance still in progress. One noticeable issue is a ceiling leak on one of the floors, which, while concerning, is being managed decently by the staff. Floors are mostly kept dry and safe, and it’s clear that the team is working hard to prevent any accidents. That said, it’s something that should be addressed soon for long-term sustainability and customer confidence.
On a brighter note, the customer service is already a strong point. The cashiers are friendly, helpful, and patient, especially refreshing in a high-traffic area like Flushing.
All in all, 99 Ranch Market has a strong foundation and great potential. A few fixes here and there, and this could easily become a go-to spot for many locals looking for quality...
