We originally started this very scary process at New Jersey Urology. After feeling like we were at a Meat Factory, we decided that we needed to see Dr. Carver at Sloan. Well, I can assure you, it is worth the trip to the City for these doctors & staff! We do not know the outcome of his biopsy yet but the experience has been great!
We saw Dr. Carver on a Monday for a consultation. The office had asked us previously to send over the images from his MRI and his blood levels as he has ITP (low platelet counts). When we first arrived, everyone was so helpful, from the garage attendants, to check in, to the nurses, to the doctor.
Talking to Dr. Carver, we immediately felt better about the process and understood more about what was shown on the MRI. He explained that only 30% of Prostate Cancers start where this lesion was in the gland. After a few minutes, he was told he needed to have a biopsy (which we knew already). Dr. Carver got him in the following Monday (1 Week!). NJ Urology had a 4 week wait and they have 1/8th of the patients that Sloan has. Dr. Carver personally went out to speak with his nurse to get my father in ASAP for the biopsy.
The second trip to Sloan, was for the biopsy. We were taken in and my father had the procedure. The biopsy was not with Dr. Sloan, which we knew at the time of booking but it was one of his colleges. My father liked this doctor equally as much. His words were, "This doctor was so straight forward, there was no beating around the bush, but I truly felt like he gave me the right information."
We are 3 days past the biopsy now and my father still cant stop saying how happy he is that we took the trip to Sloan. He feels the level of care given at Sloan is second to none. At NJ Urology, he felt like a lost patient. At Sloan, even though they have a significantly higher amount of patients, he felt like he was treated so much better and he said the care was impeccable.

Read moreI was thoroughly dismayed at the complete lack of compassion shown to me by Dr. Carver. He failed miserably at addressing the emotional, and physical, aspects of such a life changing surgery. Physicians should understand that although they may see hundreds of patients, to us, a surgeon represents someone who we are entrusting with our lives. After meeting with him, I decided to have my surgery...
