I was misdiagnosed when it was strep!
I went to City MD the moment they opened (8am) because I had a feeling I had strep throat (my throat was burning and soar). Note- I also had a scheduled appointment with my primary physician in the evening that day for something completely different. I decided to give City MD a try because I was at work and worried I would get my coworkers sick.
The location is great. The staff is really nice and the facilities are clean. There are several self- service kiosks to check in which is convenient.
They called my name one minute after I sat down. The medical assistant did a swab test to test for strep. When the doctor came in, she showed me the test and it had one line. She explained the strep test was negative, if it were positive there would be two lines. Her conclusion was I had allergies. She suggested I buy Flonase and Allegra to ease my symptoms of soar throat and help with my “allergies.” I told her I’ve never had allergies but figured I’m getting older so maybe I was developing them.
I was in and out of the office in 13 minutes. This included registering at check-in (I struggled a bit), seeing the doctor and making a payment (which I plan on disputing).
After work, I went to my primary physician for my scheduled follow-up. I told my doctor I went to urgent care in the morning and had the strep test done and it was negative. I told him I still had a lot of pain in my throat. They did the swab and it came back POSITIVE for strep throat. I had two lines (positive) on the strep test stick after 6 hours of visiting urgent care. I was mind-blown.
What gets me upset is that I went back to work after urgent care not knowing I had strep throat which we all know is very contagious. I was concerned and wanted to seek care before I infected others at work. But unknowingly, I was at work all day coughing throughout my meetings. I would’ve never gone back to work to risk others getting sick if I knew I had strep.
Somehow the 6 hour difference from urgent care and my doctors office made a bacterial difference with the test result. City MD said they would send my test out and I would hear back if the lab result. I got a message 4 days later to log into the portal and it still said negative!!
I find it insane that I saw two doctors who did the same exact test and one found the condition and the other said it was allergies.
I will not go to City MD again. Although the staff is nice, seem concerned with a clean facility, I was misdiagnosed. I’d rather take the trip up to Westmed. I lost confidence with this urgent care and do not recommend others to come here either. Imagine if I did not have my primary docs appointment? I would still be walking around everywhere taking Allegra and using Flonase as per City MD’s doctors suggestion. I actually purchased that stuff and it was expensive. What I really needed was...
Read moreIf i could give 0 stars I would. I’ve been having chronic nose bleeds over the past week for the first time since I had my nose cauterized 15 years ago. I wanted to have it done again, doing my due diligence, I called this CItyMD prior to going and spoke to Chantel who assured me they can cauterize my nose.
So I walk 30 minutes to get there with blood dripping out of my nose and sign in at the kiosk using my health insurance information through work. After I signed in, I noticed they partner with the VA, as a veteran who has VAHealthcare, I was excited, I’d avoid any cost on my end. I immediately went to the front desk and said, “hi, I signed in with my regular health insurance but I’d like to use my VA health insurance card.” The women replied, “okay, Umm let me see, take a seat, we can do it after your appointment.”
The Doctor calls me in, he’s a very nice guy, but said he won’t cauterize it because he doesn’t believe in it. At this point, I’m a little disappointed, and feel like I wasted my time. After my appointment I go to the front desk and said, “Hi, does a Chantel work here? she told me on the phone I could have my nose cauterized.” The woman at the front desk replies “yes” and walks to the back, a few moments later she comes out and tells me I called the wrong number. I show her my phone call prior to walking in and the women at the front desk replied “it’s the number for this location but you didn’t speak to Chantel you must be confused.” As if i just randomly pulled a name out of a hat and asked if they were an employee and guessed right. Essentially calling me a liar.
It only gets worse, she tells me she can’t take my VA card because I already scanned in with my health insurance card. So now, I’ll get billed through my health insurance company. I’ll be forced to pay for a visit where I wasn’t provided the services I was told I’d receive on the phone AND they wouldn’t accept my VA card, even though I told them prior to my appointment.
I did my due diligence every step of the way and was treated as if it was my problem. This is unacceptable customer service every step of the way. I will never go back and I urge anyone who reads this to never step foot in this location. The carelessness, lack of professionalism and integrity they displayed was beyond...
Read moreNeeded to get my hand checked, and did not want to travel an hour to see my PCP, and my PCP would not be able to do an X-ray in the office or put a cast or splint on my thumb.
Made the executive decision to try an urgent care instead of a local emergency room. Emergency room’s on a Friday in NYC., can be a gamble.
Summit Health and CityMD are now part of VillageMD. VillageMD provides high quality, accessible healthcare services for individuals and communities across the United States, with primary, multispecialty, and urgent care providers serving patients in traditional clinic settings, and in patients’ homes which is a service I love, reminds me of concierge medicine, and through virtual appointments.
You can easily find this location on West 14th street, 2 blocks away from Union Square.
Upon arrival you’re greeted by a very pleasant receptionist that will ask if you have an appointment or, are a walk in.
I was a walk in, therefore I scanned the QR code at check in, which gives you electronic consent forms to fill out.
The waiting area is very clean, no crowds, and esthetically pleasing to the eyes. The atmosphere and service gives you a comfortable, and relaxed feeling, especially with the beautiful art.
After electronically filling out the forms, I was given an immediate appointment.
My wait was barely five minutes. Went to the back, had my vitals taken. Doctor came in, within another 5 minutes.
Had the pleasure of seeing an amazing Doctor, whom was a kind person with compassion , with excellent bedside manners.
After examining my hand, wrist, and elbow, the Doctor felt it was a terrible sprain. My hand was put in brace, and I was given instructions on how to care for the sprain. My entire visit was probably under 40 minutes. Could not ask for a better medical experience. Definitely recommend City MD West 14th street location.
If you need x-rays, call ahead to confirm which location has the mobile x-ray technician. To ensure you are not left...
