I used to go to CPY in Austin pre-pandemic and absolutely loved it. Not sure if things have gone downhill after COVID or if my expectations have just changed over the years (I have really deepened my personal practice since then), but I was so disappointed to try CPY again.
I'm not a big fan of the class styles — in my opinion they are more yoga-inspired fitness than yoga — but my real issue is with the lack of studio etiquette I saw at this location that totally tainted my experience. At the end of a 75 min C2 class, several people got up during savasana to wipe their mats, whisper to each other and exit the room. I think that is SO disrespectful to not only the instructor, but also to everyone else in the room. I could not enjoy the remainder of my meditation after that. People also brought their phones/smart watches into the room with them and were on their devices as class was beginning. Someone's device started chiming in the middle of class. Again, this is so rude IMO and displays a lack of regard for other people as well as the practice itself. I think some basic studio rules would go really far and would elevate the experience to become more meditative/yogic vs. just a workout class.
Overall, this felt like a corporate-washed version of the yoga that I've come to know and love over the years and left me with a bad taste in my mouth... hoping this is not the norm for...
Read moreLove love love this studio and all the instructors! I’m here multiple times a week and love the classes and community here so much. My only gripe with this studio in particular is the inconsistency of setting the vibe for class. This studio has white/grey ceilings unlike most other CP studios that have black ceilings. This makes the inside studio very bright inside, and when instructors keep the lights high the entire class instead of dimming them and/or using the LED lights it makes the class a good bit less enjoyable because the lighting feels surgical while you’re staring at your moving body in a mirror for an hour. Ruins the zen-vibe corepower tries to go for. The other thing they could do better at is keeping the music at a louder volume for yoga sculpt and choosing music that is better suited for a workout. I’ve noticed a distinct lack of bass, and could use some Beyonce-Gaga-Charli like motivation instead of quiet lyrical music while I’m doing reps and sweating out of every pore! All this being said, some instructors do a great job of this, it’s just inconsistent across the board. Still love this studio and keep coming back nevertheless, just would love to workout in a dark room with loud music instead of super quiet jazz playing in...
Read moreAmazing CorePower studio on the UES! My class was in studio 2, which may have been the smaller of the two, but was the perfect size for the Friday evening C2 class. The physical space is beautiful and modern, but most of all— spacious! There is nothing worse than feeling like you are tripping over other people while you try to gather your belongings post-class. Naturally it is a brand new studio, but the bathrooms and showers are pristine! And in keeping with the theme— spacious. You get a complimentary lock & key for your locker, all of which are medium sized. But there is also a separate area with hangers for coats (hi, NYC winter 👋🏽). The class- any easy playful flow, with good music and even better energy. I left feeling absolutely wonderful! (Post class glow, for proof!) It’s also worth mentioning that this particular studio lies in the “fitness section” of the UES 80’s, so there are lots of post workout refuel spots à la Sweetgreen, Just Salad, Whole Foods, Chipotle, along with the UES Levain bakery, should that be what you need. All in all, if you are in the area— or even if you are not, this should definitely become a core part of your UES workout rotation. No...
