By the Way Bakery — Restaurant in New York

Amazing bakery! You would have no idea all these treats are gluten free and dairy free!! I first tried this bakery in Greenwich CT, and then was THRILLED when I realized there was a location in UES.

Some of my favorite items include: -Almond cookie -Brownie/chocolate cookie -Whoopie pie -Lemon poppyseed cake

Some of the other items I’ve tried that I thought were lacking flavor were the strawberry muffin, chocolate chip muffin, and vanilla cupcake with vanilla icing.

Pros: -Everything is gluten free & dairy free -Very clean and organized bakery -LOTS to choose from! (Cookies, cupcakes, brownies, bars, cakes by the slice or full size, whoopie pies, scones, muffins, and more) -Can order cakes from here

Cons: -Baked goods go by FAST - definitely come earlier in the day if you want a full selection to choose from -A bit pricey (but worth the price) -Storefront is pretty tiny and can be easy to pass if you’re not paying attention -Staff is not always the friendliest (really depends who is working that day..)

I ordered my wedding cake from By the Way Bakery and I was SO happy with that decision. The coconut cloud cake is one of my favorite cakes I've ever had in my entire life so to have it as my wedding cake was a dream! Ordering was easy, pick up was easy, and eating the entire cake was beyond easy. I am counting down the days until our 1 year anniversary so I can have an excuse to order another whole cake.

UPDATE: I used By The Way Bakery for my birthday cake and my gender reveal cake and let me tell you, a wedding anniversary is not the only reason to order a giant cake! I had the carrot cake for my birthday and it was SO delicious, such a crowd pleaser. Moist, delicious cream cheese frosting, no one could believe it was gluten free and dairy free. For the gender reveal, I did the same coconut cloud cake but had the bakery tint the inner frosting the gender of the baby. Working with the bakery to get the cake prepared was seamless. I experienced significant disappointment with By The Way Bakery recently. I purchased a cake in full over the phone and, unbeknownst to me, there was a 48-hour pick-up window. This policy, along with any mention of two reminder calls, was never communicated to me during or after the purchase.

When I contacted the store about the uncollected cake, I was initially told it had been discarded, then later informed it was sliced, donated, or SOLD. My primary concern, however, is the complete lack of care, empathy, and consideration shown by the store associate I spoke with. She abruptly hung up on me twice - which she later apologized for - and showed little interest/care in helping resolve the issue. Her conduct was unprofessional and unacceptable.

As a loyal customer who has spent thousands of dollars at By The Way Bakery's Upper East Side and Upper West Side locations, as well as through Whole Foods, over the past five to seven years, I am incredibly disheartened by this experience. I will never support this...
