The environment is clean and cozy. The staff is helpful, knowledgeable, and courteous. The products used are amazing. However my experience was horrible and i will never return. Here are the reasons why. I was highly recommended to this salon because i am a transitioning natural. I came by the shop spoke with the owner we agreed upon a 2 week appointment. I confirmed the night before. I got there at 11:15am on 11/15/18 and was greeted by the owner who stated that i'm early and my appointment is for 1200 noon. I had a prior engagement that let out early. I also wanted to allow time for looking for parking. I was also excited because it was my first natural hair appointment It really should not have been a big deal. But any hoo, i was then seated. At 1130 another customer arrives and says to the owner i bet you didn't think i was coming. This was an indication to me that she was late for her session. So she starts her consult with this woman and then begins to dye her hair. At noon the owner put me in her chair and we started the consultation. Originally i was supposed to get a wash and go but once she saw my hair a flexi rod set was suggested. That sounded good. I was washed deep conditioned and set under the dryer. The other client was then put into the chair to be worked on. But the owner then put a third party in the rotation a walk in. So when she's put the first client in the chair and washed the walk in that put the time frame back tremendously. I was then rinsed and my leave in conditioner was put in and i had to sit again. By the time the owner got back to me it was 3:45 pm. You can't be serious. When i asked the owner why she didn't tell me that this appointment would be an all day adventure her reply was natural hair takes time and i'm a busy person. Wow!!! That was extremely unprofessional. At that moment i knew that this appointment had to end. So i then proceeded with the cut i got 2 cornrows paid my $60 bucks and left the premises. This is how you treat a first time customer with a appointment from 2 weeks ago. A 5 hour wait for a wash and cut. If i had stayed for the roller set it would be another 2 hours. Unbelieveable. I don't take 5 hours to do my own hair so i should come to a proffesional and be put on pause with a appointment that was planned over 2 weeks ago, arriving on time, wait patiently while you conduct shop business, pay bills, and order food and pay you and be happy about it. No way, my expectations were destroyed and my experience ruined. A total waist of my time. You can't treat people that way and want people to promote black owned...
Read moreIâm writing this review for many reasons, 1 being that the reviews are what got me in Coletteâs chair at Curl and Co. So I hope this helps you too!
Iâm sitting here so excited after my first visit with Colette! To begin, the salon studio is BEAUTIFUL. Small, but very intimate and cozy. The other hair stylists were so kind and calm; the overall ambiance is that! Very kind, calm, and even the clients were too. The music and smell reminded me of going to the salon as a kid and feeling like you were with your aunties getting your hair done. And this also taught me that you do NOT need to be in a big salon to be at the salon, this was the best salon Iâve been to since childhood!
Now to ColetteâŚI am so deeply grateful for her and this experience. I have been struggling with what to do with my tightly coiled hair, how to care for it, whatâs wrong (and right) with it, etc. and in my YEARS of being natural, and going to COUNTLESS hairstylists, I actually learned so much from sitting in her chair just this one time FOR THE FIRST TIME. Past experiences tended to be rushed, low-quality, no education or patience, and lack of connection and honesty on what the stylist can and can not do.
I was wanting to go big or go home and cut A LOT off lol, but she assured me that that was not needed, and cut what was necessary to start my healthy hair journey (thank God cause I wouldâve regretted it next week đ). If there is such thing as a fairy hairy godmother, Colette is that! I canât wait for my next visit to see the progress of my efforts coupled with her educating me.
Also, if anyone else has struggled with getting quality trims (which are âshapingsâ at Curl and Co), Colette is THE ONE! Iâve only ever got âtrimsâ that were very much âcut all of it at once and make it âlookâ evenâ whereas Colette actually sectioned it, examined EACH section and strand AND my scalp. Oh! And she told me EVERY step she was doing, suggestions, tips, and answered every single question I had.
She really took care of me and really did solidify trust (which is hard with stylists nowadays). And I couldnât have asked for a better experience and start on this new journey. If youâre looking for a stylist⌠I think I finally found âmy stylistâ, and that is UNMATCHED. Love Curl and Co. and canât wait for my next routine visit!
For reference, I have tightly coiled hair and was experiencing breakage, color damage, and product build-up. I got a shaping...
Read moreI am so glad that I did my research and did not settle until I found the best stylist for me. From the first phone call I knew Stacy was it! She was warm, calming and professional over the phone and reassured me that what I was looking for in a new hairstyle could be achieved. After over 10 years of growing long natural hair I was ready for a fresh start. I had been wanting to big chop and try something fresh and new, but had always been too afraid. All I knew was long hair, but I no longer had the time or energy to devote to maintaining long, thick coils. I am a new mom, work full time and donât want to spend hours washing, detangling, twisting etc. So, big chop!
I had so many questions about how to maintain short hair, what products to use, how often I would need a shape up or trim. Before a clipper or scissor even touched my head, Stacy and I had a thorough and collaborative discussion about what short hair maintenance entails and what would be the best cut to suit my lifestyle preferences. We finally settled on a slightly tapered low cut that would show off my curls and still be feminine and easy to maintain. I felt assured that I was making the right decision. Stacy talked me through the whole process from the moment the chopping started and those long tresses hit the floor. I had no regrets! She washed, conditioned and trimmed some more before teaching me how to style with some of her favorite black owned hair products and finished with a warm diffuser.
It has been 2 weeks since my big chop with Stacy and I have tremendous gratitude. I am so thrilled that I found her and feel lucky that I had the opportunity to have my hair cut by someone so kind, knowledgeable and supportive. I felt like I was with my family!
I am a 100% satisfied customer and will be a returning client for as long as Stacy continues to cut, style and beautify hair.
I believe Stacy at Curl & Co is an extremely talented natural hair stylist. If you are looking for amazing service, education and care, look no further. I found a gem and will be returning and referring. Thank you Stacy and...
