UPDATE: It's March 1st, 2024. It's time D'Agostino LEAVES for good. I did some price comparing, not because I'm bored, but because I went to pick up a few items I had forgotten from my order online and my total was shocking. (BTW - I order groceries online because the prices in west village at the scam grocery stores are so insulting!). A box of Morning Farms cereal was $10.49 at D'ag. Online for delivery the cereal is $5.49! A literal $5 difference. Unsweetened almond milk was $7.49 at D'ag and $5.49 online same brand).. Rice crackers was $6.49 at D'ag at $3.99 online (same brand). Blonde Roast pre-made iced coffee at D'ag is $9.99 and $7.49 online (same brand). 2 Liter Tide free and clear laundry detergent $19 at D'ag!!! $12 online or at CVS. And this goes on, and on, and on, and on.
EVERYONE! Save your money. D'agastino's is a complete scam and they're price gauging the neighborhood. Not everyone who lives on this side of town is wealthy and wants to drop $60 while picking up 5 things that should cost a total of MAYBE $30. Prices are 30-50% more expensive than getting your food DELIVERED. Make that make sense? It's 30 to 50% CHEAPER to order your groceries online from a different grocery store and have them DELIVERED and PAY A TIP than it is to physically go to a D'Agostino and pick up your own food. How?
It's time we show them it's not okay. Spread the word. Stop shopping here. If they're going to continue to insult us and rip us off, we won't be doing business with them anymore. They're free to charge what they want, and we're free to wish them farewell and maybe they'll put in an ACTUAL good grocery store, even a national chain would be better than this garbage.
STOP SUPPORTING THIS PRICE GAUGING!
(Here's the original review from 2023) I want to preface this review with one very, very important point: I love the staff here. Are they the nicest -- I mean, no. But I don't really expect any staff in NYC to be "the nicest," let alone mildly nice. But every time I strike up a conversation with one of the checkout clerks or the people stocking shelves, they're always cool and they all have a good sense of humor. So, I love them. I want to make that clear.
The reason why I'm giving this place one star is simple: their prices are BEYOND insulting. I truly don't know how they're still in business. Items are anywhere between 50% to 150% more expensive than anywhere else (I'm not joking).
They're charging bodega prices at a supermarket and they know they can get away with it because West Village has no options for grocery stores. It's price gauging and it's not cool. The chain needs some accountability so that's why I'm leaving a public review.
If I were you, I'd walk down to Brooklyn Fare or just order online. If you're just buying for yourself a few items here and there, you'll be fine. But if you want to buy groceries for a few days, you'll be spending a lot of money for very...
Read more9/21/2024-Update I revisited the location at 578 third Ave. NYC 10016 today and before I entered the store I saw the cat at the door. Please see pics attached, you will notice the establishment had the audacity to post a sign in front stating no pets allowed but they have a pet working as a deterrent for rodents at the store. In case you’re wondering if I made a purchase…absolutely not as there is still an existing issue with cats and rats at the store. Update-Revisited the location today 4/1/2024 and saw a cat in the location. The cat is still being used as a deterrent for rodents. I was told by Mildred “this is a trained cat”. In my opinion, The cat is being trained to keep rodents away. My first post below was written 8/2023 and the issue has not been resolved.
The location at 578 Third Avenue NY NY 10016, has a known(Manager is aware)Rodent issue. At this point instead of taking proper precautions this establishment now has a cat. When you enter the location it smells like a zoo not a...
Read moreThe supermarket has everything you need despite its size. The staff follow you around, by picking up, switching around putting down and picking up the same item time and time again, when you move on to another section they move on as well. They provide no eye contact. When I asked for assistance I received a cordial response from the back of the head of the worker with a backward point to where I would locate the item I am looking for. I apolOgized for bothering the worker. I always think customer service in Manhattan is better than the Bronx. But really, its the same. Retail workers are miserable and underpaid. I...
