My head was just in a boxing match and it lost.
I chose to come here since my barber of 5 years moved out of NYC. Thus, I was in search of a new barber. I picked a level 2 barber for midday. Everything up until this point was great.
Once I arrived at the shop, I was informed that my level 2 barber was running late. Not a problem—it’s NYC, it happens. The level 2 barber rushed in, set their things down, and started chatting with the crew at the shop. When they asked if they were late, the crew replied in front of me, “Yes, you’re late.” Instead of addressing me and greeting me, they continued to get ready at their station. Once they were ready, they screamed my name out like I was a wild child at Walmart.
They continued to talk to the crew about what they were going to eat for lunch at 3 pm, without saying hello or asking how I was. When it came time to tell them what I wanted to do with my hair, they didn't listen and just started cutting, beating up my head like it was a punching bag. They assured me they knew what I wanted for my haircut, but it did not come out the way I thought it would.
On top of everything, once they were notified that their next appointment had arrived, they started to speed up on mine, not caring what they were doing. They just kept throwing product on top of product on my head. What got me was when they cut my ear with the clippers and just said, “Oops, sorry,” and proceeded to slap more product and baby powder on the cut.
I have never had such a terrible cut in my life. I feel like a family member or friend could have done a better job.
Fellow Barber has hit rock bottom in my opinion. To pay $80 for a level 2 barber is just outrageous.
Please stay away! There are much better...
Read moreStephen has been cutting my hair for years - I first started going to him in Williamsburg and Hudson Yards, and can’t wait to have him cut my hair now at the Nomad location which is much more convenient for me to travel to! I know this is a barbershop, but Stephen has years of experience cutting women’s hair and I wouldn’t trust anyone else in the city. He is extremely patient and picky in the best way you would want your hairdresser to be. I also love how his cuts still hold their “style” even after it is long grown out. He has a deep understanding of hair and its natural texture, and I don’t think I discovered what my natural hair texture was until Stephen cut my hair. His hair cuts have really enhanced my natural waves and given my hair life. I don’t think I’ve ever received so many compliments on a haircut prior to seeing Stephen.
I will caveat though, as a woman if you are expecting the typical salon experience with the hair wash, style, etc. you will not find that here since it is a barbershop. It will be a dry cut so come with clean hair! Regardless, I still highly recommend and have not gone back to a regular...
Read moreI've been going to Fellow Barbershops for many years and on both coasts -- Mission and Market when I lived in San Francisco and then the West Village location when I moved back here to NYC. I was delighted when they opened this NoMad one super close to where I live. The other day I went as a walk in for a quick 15 minute trim. When I went to check out I was shocked that my $45 pre-pandemic cut was now $75 (basically $100 with tip). I thought their whole thing was good cuts at reasonable prices. Surprisingly here's the blurb from their website, in 2006 in NYC "there were two options for haircuts: to make an appointment at a salon and pay $90 and up or to pay a visit to the closest barbershop charging an average of $12 for a limited range of haircut styles and uneven quality. We wanted to provide an elevated and relevant sense of style with our barbering service, with a convenient, walk-in wait list and a $40 price point." I guess it's time they updated their story on...
