The night before a short vacation to NYC from Columbus, OH I ran out of time to get a much overdue haircut. I'm an Army guy and I usually keep my hair very short. On the morning of 7/29/22 I landed at LaGuardia and checked into my hotel at the corner of 42nd and 2nd. I use my phone to search nearby barbershops and checked their reviews. After a short walk and encountered two wonderful barbers that were so polite and ran an old school barbershop. I don't think my barber was used to my request for a "no guard high fade." However, he was meticulous and took a lot of time to get it perfect. It truly was one of the best haircuts I've ever had. They were wonderful to speak with, being friendly and asking about my life. They asked how I located them and chose them. I was the only person in the shop during my visit, seeing as it was a weekday morning. Yes, the haircut costs a lot more than the barber in the small town near my base. I know these guys spend more than10X the rent for the square footage. I feel that I got a really "great value for my money" considering the location, the quality, and time spent on my haircut. When I left, they made me feel like I was a valued customer that had been a client for decades. I used to travel to NYC at least once a year before the pandemic. This was my first time back since then. I hope to renew my vacation frequency. I think I'm going to intentionally hold off on my next pre-vacation haircut so I can...
Read moreGrowing up in this neighborhood, I have been going to Vlad my entire life. I can without a doubt recommend him for so many reasons, among them his amazing professionalism and experience. He will cut your hair exactly how you want it, and you can trust with absolute certainty that he will never mess it up. I've seen him work with people of all ages and all sorts of hair types, and his expertise and attention to detail are clear. And I can tell he chooses the guys who work in his shop carefully because even when I get a haircut from them, I am always satisfied afterwards
Not only is Vlad a great barber; he is also a fantastic guy. My dad, my brother, and I have always come to his shop and enjoyed the friendly conversation he makes. That's one of the reasons he has so many regulars. By this point (two decades running this shop), Vlad has become a neighborhood fixture.
In short, whether you are living in the area, looking for a new barber, or just passing by the area and wondering whether to trust Vlad, give him a shot! You will not be disappointed. I am currently a college student and literally make sure to only get my haircut during breaks because I know I can trust...
Read moreFantastic haircut at a fantastic price! I admit it ... I previously was one of those guys that went for a fancy haircut at one of those slick shops on Madison Avenue(or Rodeo Drive if I was on the West Coast). In fact, my last designer barber shop had photos all over the wall like the following "To Mario, great haircut Jeff Bridges", and "To Mario, You are a fantastic barber, Derek Jeter" and many many more show biz and sports heroes. One day I said to my barber. "You have hundreds of these celebrity photos and I've been coming here for a year and never saw a single celebrity". To which my barber said, "I've worked here for four years and I never met Mario". Well you get the idea. Then about six months a client recommended 49th Street Barber. The result, this barber was every bit as good, in fact, better than the uptown guys and at half the price!" For thirty bucks ($30.00) you will walk out with a fantastic haircut. If you are truly like me and you only go to a barber for a really good haircut and not to "be seen" this...
