Learned a lot, had fun, and enjoyed delicious food! My wife and I attended Thai Food cooking class at HCNY on Jan 25, 2024. The group was small, just 6 people, so we got almost a private class. Entire class was well planned and organized. Each of us got some hands-on stuff to do, we asked questions, took notes, enjoyed our meal, yet we ran exactly on time. John provided a lot of information not just on specific dishes we cooked, but also on Thai cuisine fundamentals, ingredients, and main tastes. He also shared some cool cooking tips we found useful though we are not cooking beginners. We ended up with a plentiful freshly made Thai dinner consisting of Tom Yum soup with Shrimp, Fried Fish in Tamarind sauce, Thai Red Curry Chicken, and sticky rice. All the dishes came out delicious and tasted like in a Thai restaurant! And most important we've successfully reproduced these dishes at home one week later! Thank you John, and The HCNY Crew for the great experience! We highly recommend Home Cooking NY to all who likes and learns to cook!

Overall this is a somewhat mediocre cooking class for the price and current competition. I went to the Thai cooking session with my wife where we learned to make a soup, rice, curry, and fish dish. It was enjoyable but I wouldn’t go back. I think the biggest problem with Home Cooking’s setup is that they physically don’t have the resources to allow each student to do any hot cooking. There is only one electric portable burner at the table (which only the instructor uses) and the sole hands-on experience you get is cutting vegetables or preparing ingredients. The rest of the time you spend listening and watching the instructor cook. That’s really it. The instructor was knowledgeable but I didn’t feel like I learned too much more than what I would’ve by watching videos or reading recipes. The food “we” made was good, except for the fish dish which my wife and I actually did not enjoy. In the end I can’t really recommend this class given the high price, and that there are now many cooking class options available in NYC.

I was gifted the "how to cook duck" class, and it was amazing. The instructor was very friendly and thorough, giving clear explanations for the steps and why each was necessary. He talked about everything from how to source duck, how to prepare it, and reasons he uses certain techniques over others. Before this class, I was extremely intimidated by cooking duck at home. No one really does it, which is also why it's so hard to source at the average grocery store to make. But after this class, my main takeaway has been: as long as you have the time and patience to fully allow the fat to render from the skin (as well as the time and patience needed to clean up a whole kitchen covered in duck fat - that's going to be a real doozy!), then cooking duck will actually be quite straightforward as long as you don't rush it. Would highly recommend the duck cooking class and this cooking school in general. It's in a slightly larger space than pre-pandemic and is well designed and run.

I just took Chef Al’s Indian cooking class and I am extremely satisfied and thankful for my time with him! I cannot recommend Chef Al enough.

I did the 2.5 hour course on Indian cooking, and was guided with a group of 11 others on building a complete meal, including sides, mains, and a chutney.

Chef Al was the main reason my time was so great. He was a wealthy of knowledge about cooking, Indian food, and technique. He also informed us about all the ingredients and what makes Indian cooking unique. I walked away with so may applicable notes on my new cooking going forward. As an experienced home chef, there were still so many things I learned in my 2.5 hours. Plus, it was fun! Lots of cooking, tasting, and learning.

At the end, we sat down all together and enjoyed the meal we all cooked.

One note: I haven’t takes a group cooking class before so I’m not experienced on the norm or standard of these classes. Also, this style of class was all of us with chopping stations, and only one cooking surface for all 12, instead of individual cooking surfaces for each cooking their separate things. Definitely saves time the way we did it all together, but just something to be aware of if you’re looking for a class that has more individual hands on cooking. We were given chances to cook that chef al helped share to anyone who wanted to, so there was some.

A wonderful experience I would recommend for beginner and expert cooked alike. If you’re into cooking, and excited to learn more, this is...

I can not say enough amazing things about this place! I enrolled in the 6 week culinary bootcamp for beginners and I could not be more impressed and happy with the experience. I was someone who had a basic knowledge of cooking but wanted to hone my skills, fill in my gaps of knowledge, and feel more comfortable in the kitchen. This class has achieved this and beyond that! Firstly the space is amazing- a really well constructed and set up teaching kitchen that's really a pleasure to work in and the class size is capped at a number that makes sure we all have plenty of room to work and see the instructor. Speaking of the instructor, I have had the pleasure of having Jennifer as our teacher for the 6 week class. She has been such a wealth of knowledge and you can tell that she really loves teaching. She makes everyone excited to learn and encourages us all to become more confident in our cooking abilities. The classes are structured really well, building on your skills every week and giving you "homework" to work on every week. The class is also an amazing value for all of the information I am getting! I would recommend this to absolutely anyone who wants to feel more comfortable in the kitchen. I know they also do individual classes and corporate events, and I can't wait to book one of those with a group...

I just wanted to take this opportunity to share my thoughts and experience from my recent virtual cooking class with Home Cooking New York. I must admit that I was somewhat suspect and skeptical of the outcome of this experience. Having attended in-person classes in the past, I was unsure how this experience would translate in a virtual environment. I scheduled the cooking class for my niece and I. She had a strong desire to learn how to make dumplings and I thought it would be a great bonding adventure. We had a great time and my niece truly loved the experience. Our fantastic experience could not have happened without acknowledging the help and talent of a great Chef/Instructor. We were fortunate enough to have Chef Susan Streit Sherman as our Instructor. She always had a sunny disposition, had patience of a saint and worked very well with my niece. My niece has not stopped talking about her experience. The real test came when the fruits of our labor quickly disappeared and there was not a trace of a dumpling to be had or found.

Thank you again for providing an experience and memory...
