Came here on a whim because we were craving Asian with some kicks and we’re close by. The space is small but the menu is super extensive and comprehensive. We opted for something simple (because we were just starving) but I would urge you to be more adventurous.
App: Fried calamari with ginger avocado sauce Simple, but pretty different with the ginger avocado sauce. It is smooth with a spicy kick, added to the hot and crispy fried calamari.
Entree: Kanom Jean Nham Ngiaw Fermented rice noodle topped with pig cracklings/pork rinds, bean sprout, and cabbage. Honestly it tasted exactly as it said on the menu. Sweet, sour, salty, though sweet is “turned up to 11”. The thin rice noodles they use have this intrinsic texture that to me lacks toothfulness so I am not a fan. And I don’t like the texture of the rinds after they soak up the liquid and because sweet and mushy. This is what my friend had and she didn’t finish. It isn’t a bad dish, it is just so that great for us on that day.
Crab meat fried rice With lumped crab meat, egg, and scallion. This is actually the favorite of us two. Somehow they managed to have a fantastic “wok hei” combined with a umami yet still citrusy taste to their flavor. It is quite addictive to have a spoonful of sweet crab + umami egg + chewy-bouncy rice + herby scallion.
I am intrigued by this restaurant and I feel I want to explore more of their menu options next times I come around. If they can do the simple dishes justice, then I hope they excel on other...
Read moreFood was mediocre at best. I requested my main dish to be least spicy as possible but nope. They added extra hot peppers on top. I took most of it off before I took the picture but if you look in the picture I put it in my boyfriend's dish (same picture) and there was still some floating in the broth. I was digging out as much hot peppers as I can at the restaurant that my fingers started to burn and no it's not from the heat of the broth. Even when I took it home there was a lot of hot peppers I was still digging out. Still my fingers are burning. Maybe if the they didn't add that additional hot peppers I wouldn't had a problem with it. It definitely won't be as hot as it was when they put the extra hot peppers. But we won't know now. The ragoon was bland and only taste like cream cheese. The duck was over cooked and didn't taste like duck. The skin of the duck wasn't crispy but fatty. Usually the skin is easily taken off the fat. Although it was meaty but what good is that if the taste isn'tgood. The Thai ice tea tasted weird...well not like the other places I had gone. Very disappointed especially after reading the reviews. I really hate throwing food away but I will have to throw the rest of my food away after I added more noodles to make it less spicy and it didn't work. There was just too much hot peppers. Unfortunately I will not be going to this restaurant again. They can't even follow directions. There was no need to add addition hot...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Lan Larb Chiang Mai, and I can’t recommend it enough—especially if you’re craving bold, authentic Thai flavors done right. Two standout dishes that completely stole the show were the Cry Tiger and the Panang Curry.
The Cry Tiger was exceptional—tender, juicy grilled beef, perfectly marinated and served with a smoky chili dipping sauce that had just the right balance of heat and tang. The meat was cooked to perfection with that slightly charred edge that gives it so much flavor. It’s the kind of dish that keeps you reaching for more, bite after bite.
The Panang Curry was rich, creamy, and deeply flavorful. The coconut milk base was silky and well-balanced with the curry paste—not overly sweet, but full-bodied and aromatic. The meat was tender and generously portioned, and the fresh kaffir lime leaves added a fragrant, citrusy lift that rounded out the dish beautifully. It’s comfort food with complexity, and absolutely satisfying.
Service was warm and attentive, and the setting has that cozy, relaxed charm that makes you want to linger a little longer. Whether you’re a local or just visiting Chiang Mai, Lan Larb is a must-visit if you love traditional Thai food with real...
