My new go-to haircut place in the East Village and I'm happy to say I'm not disappointed.
My last 6 or 7 haircuts have all been at Kaminotech and I've tried a number of stylists--I'm never disappointed with their professionalism, friendliness, and the job they do (including the light head massage during the hair washing that I love). I'll admit that I am happy to pay a bit extra for my men's haircuts--I used to have hair to my shoulders and long ago adopted the Japanese stylist, uh, style--but men who are used to a $15-30 cut may find the prices a little eye-popping (personally, for the job done and the service level I'm more than happy to pay the cost).
Location is great and central, and it's never a pain to book with them--I used to use Google's Assistant for this (and I LOVED it because I get mega anxiety on the phone) and while Kaminotech has now moved to an on-site reservation system instead, I still find it easy to navigate.
My one suggestion: Maybe drop the temp a little bit, especially during shoulder seasons. I've found myself pretty toasty on a few occasions and given that there's no way to really walk around or move during a haircut, it could be nice to have a bit cooler air circulating. But that could just be me! I know everyone's different when it comes to...
Read moreI have been going here for over 4 years now! And I do absolutely love it and I keep going back/recommending to friends. However, I can no longer trust their ability to bleach hair correctly. My hair was fried to the point that clumps were falling out. Even a week after, my hair is still so brittle that hair falls out just upon touching it. I do understand that going from black to platinum takes a while and lots of work. But to not check the integrity of the hair throughout processing. It was extremely negligent. They were apologetic and offered a $40 discount and free treatment. But still. The fact that I still paid over $200 for my hair to be fried off. I am disappointed. I might come back (once my hair grows back) for haircuts because they do amazing work. Again, it is a great salon. But I will need a new salon for...
Read moreOwner charged me more for my haircut bc he cut it as the stylist I had quit her job. My haircut wasn’t worth $90. Got no conversation from him. Silence. And after the cut was done I said it wasn’t really like I wanted. He snapped back. Most stylists here don’t speak English well. If you are going to be a hairstylist in NYC you need to engage with your customers. Not be silent and coldly cut our hair. Then you won’t cut our hair well bc you won’t understand what we want. Then you have the nerve to charge $90! The other stylist that quit didn’t understand English well either but she at least tried to chat....
