After a workout session at this calisthenics gym, the name made so much more sense because i walked outta there feeling strong AF and limitless! The gym is spacious, with an open floor layout, really high ceilings, graffiti on the walls and music bumping. I was greeted by Omar and some of the other trainers, everyone was nice and introduced themselves. At first, it’s pretty intimidating considering the guys in there are legit shredded and in tip top shape! Omar and I spoke about what I’m currently capable of and what I want to work on which is doing at least 5 pull ups. I can barely do one right now lol, but after the session with him I felt like I could do it! We did a drop set count, idk if that’s what it’s supposed to be called but that’s what ima call it, start at 10 and work your way down to 1. That was tough for real; pulls ups (with a band of course), push up (on a bar), squats and knee raises. After the second set of these my body was wobbling but Omar did not let me give up. He was super motivating, stern and calming all at the same time, very good balance. The perfect combo to get me through something hard I’ve never done before. I was pleasantly surprised by my strength, I did way more than I was anticipating and it felt so good. I’m a yoga gal at heart so this was a great way to challenge my body in a different way. Definitely recommend checking them out, it’s...
Read moreYesterday I reached a training milestone at Limitless NYC, the calisthenics-focused gym that opened last month on Canal St at the edges of TriBeCa and SoHo. After seeing images of the grand opening on Instagram, I bought a drop-in to see the gorgeous white pull-up bars in person.
Those bars are an improvement over what's offered in the fitness areas of most of the city's parks, and most gyms I've attended: high enough for tall people to hang fully extended, thick enough to provide grip without being overly taxing on the forearms. They won't rip open your calluses. The dip bars are high enough that you need not bend your knees on the negative.
Though I've strength-trained using my body weight for years, the endurance drills that are the specialty of owners Joe, O and Jordan invigorated my routine and flat-out challenged me. I seldom work that close to my limit, but the sense of teamwork and camaraderie made it very natural to want to contribute to the group goal. As he observed my effort, Joe scaled my push-up targets to remain attainable but challenging.
After the best sleep I've had in weeks, today I'm carrying that "good sore" feeling that signals I'll have increased working capacity once I recover.
Had I worked solo, I wouldn't have pushed myself as far. Crashing Limitless was a great way to start Memorial Day weekend. I'm thinking it's gonna be a...
Read moreI’ve been resistance training with weights for about 10 years but decided to stop by Limitless NYC to get a glimpse of what calisthenics training is all about: The owners are extremely welcoming and knowledgeable enough to help people of all fitness levels achieve their goals. The atmosphere creates an environment where everyone is supportive of each other towards giving their best effort and becoming better versions of themselves. This differs greatly from the commercial gym atmosphere that I’ve gotten so accustomed which can be isolating by nature with everyone minding their own business and listening to music with their headphones in. If you’re looking to get into the best shape of your life through calisthenics or just want to try something different than what you’re used to I have no doubt that Limitless NYC has something of value...
