Read moreThis is a place that I was really looking forward to as a part of my Restaurant Week tour with my wife. We had 12:00 reservations for Sunday, January 27th. For the food, I was pleased with the Crudo di Salmone, Rigatoni Pomodoro, and Tiramisu as had as a part of their $26 Restaurant Week prix fixe menu.
So why 3 stars, you ask? It comes down to the service and seating arrangement. We sat along a row of tables, one side of which was one of those long cushioned benches, the other side with chairs. I sat on the bench side, and my wife sat in the chair across from me. After a while however, my seat began to feel somewhat uncomfortable, and in particular, it felt like something was pushing into my right thigh. I discovered that the 20 foot plus length of this bench was divided into two sections, and the divide was right under my right leg. Because of the way this bench was framed, the wooden frame kept digging into my leg. Unfortunately, moving over a bit was not an option, as this entire row of 6-7 two top tables was occupied and there was about 4-5 inches of room already between the tables. We asked the hostess to see if we could move to a different table, and we were moved, to a much smaller and shorter table that I would describe as "cafe style", or maybe more of a kids table at a Thanksgiving dinner. Now as a frame of reference, I'm about 6 foot 3 inches, so the top of my legs now felt jammed under this glorified kids table. The hostess offered to move us again to another table, but advised us that there was another party already with 1:30 reservations for that table, so we passed on the pressure of feeling rushed through out lunch.
Now this wouldn't have been too bad, had the waiter not competely went by our new table with our entreees and delivered them to the table next to where we were originally sitting. The waiter seemed somewhat confused when they informed him that that was not they ordered, so I guess it was at least a little entertaining (more annoying than entertaining, though...).
I'm somewhat confused about why they made some of the seating decisions that they did, but having been on the receiving end of these decisions, I can't help but feel that they tried to jam as many tables as possible into their restaurant to increase their turnover for Restaurant Week. While this is a good opportunity to check out places that I'd want to go back to in the future, this was an example of a place I'm going to avoid going to anytime soon, as long as they continue with the uncomfortable seating arrangements and blasé reaction from...
Read moreI never write reviews of this nature, but this was easily the worst dining experience I’ve had. I have never experienced the kind of service I was given last night at any decent establishment. The “manager” and his team of hostesses are untrained in basic hospitality principles, especially when it comes to service, care, and overall guest satisfaction. They were unaccommodating, rude, and practically yelling at our party of 4 at the bar upstairs. I specifically requested a table upstairs to accommodate a party of 4 for a birthday. This is something I noted on Resy when I made the reservation a week in advance. We were told there wasn’t availability and we would have to wait 20 mins for a table to free up, which we politely accepted. I have been to Mamo several times, and waiting for a table to free up has never been an issue before. I’m not sure if management has changed hands recently, but the manager working the evening of 6/24/23 proceeded to then argue with me about how we needed to accept the table downstairs and if not then we were welcome to leave. The ultimatum was aggressive and uncalled for as there were many tables waiting to pay as disclosed to us earlier by another hostess. We accepted the table downstairs due to the birthday, and to our surprise, no one else was seated next to us downstairs. It was completely empty with the exception of one other table there who left soon after we sat down. We didn’t even order dessert due to how unpleasant the experience was for us. They offered us dessert on the house but the experience was already so tainted. We didn’t even receive a candle/celebratory chant with it which is why I chose Mamo for this birthday in the first place (I had also noted this for the restaurant a week in advance). All in all, I was truly shocked and embarrassed at how unprofessional management was. I didn’t appreciate being yelled at in front of dining guests as well as my own friends who were visiting town. Anyone who knows anything about hospitality or regularly dines at premium places should avoid this place. “Trendy”, low class, and I...
