Went to Lorimer's Barber Shop from Bed-Stuy because, just being honest, I can't find a place that can cut my hair in Bed-Stuy. I'll leave it at that.
I chose Lorimer's over a few others I found on a "top barbershops in Brooklyn" list because it was closer to me. I walked in and only had to wait while Alex, the owner, finished up one customer he had in the chair and another that was ahead of me.
My turn came, I gave him the parameters based on my last haircut at a certain men's salon around Carroll Gardens, and came away with a $20 cut that I MUCH preferred over the $45 cut from that salon. Alex was friendly, just as talkative as you wanted him to be (e.g., I'm pretty chatty so I like to talk and Alex conversed with me; the previous customer clearly didn't want to talk so nobody really said anything), and really did put a lot of attention to detail on the little fly-away hairs at the end of the cut.
It's not fancy, it's a little cramped, but I would much rather pay $20 for a good-looking cut and a decent conversation than $45 to sit in a gigantic open space with a fussy barber and a tiny, complimentary too-foamy beer (like at the salon in Carroll Gardens).

Read moreI wanted a good haircut in a cozy, quiet shop. Just walked in. No reservation needed. Prices are posted online and are reasonable for the neighborhood.
There was one barber working and four people waiting, which took more time than scheduling an appointment but it’s a great haircut. The three people ahead of me were happy with their haircuts. I was too.
Great for a in-and-out trim, which most other customers seemed to be there for. I had let my hair grow out but am really happy with the cut.
Put a 📌 in Lorimer’s. $30 for a great haircut in...
