I've been in and out of physical therapy for 17 years. As a ballet dancer it was always extremely frustrating having therapists either not willing to see beyond what a "textbook" body should be, or not willing to treat multiple problems at once. I tried Brittney at a point when I was ready to give up on physical therapy and accept that I would just always be with some level of pain in my day to day life. Brittney's hour-long sessions were a game changer for me. She doesn't try to rush through a session, she takes her time to listen to your concerns and doesn't just focus on one issue. Her mindset that everything in the body is connected is an extremely necessary approach for someone like me who has had years of untreated issues that just keep piling up and adding to further injuries. She is very open to not just doing something because it worked for someone else. Rather she takes your unique anatomy and problems into consideration for every session. When she is in a session with you she is 100% focused on you and not just charting looking away from you at a computer screen. I would highly recommend Brittney not only as a physical therapist for when you are injured, but as someone who can help with strengthening to prevent injuries as well. If I would have had Brittney earlier on in my ballet training, I could have prevented so many injuries.
Edit: Years later I am still with Mims Method because this practice continues to have the best clinicians. I appreciate that this practice also has Sat appointments which I fully take advantage of! In the past few months I have been working closely with Kate who has been a delight to work alongside! She also works at ABT which really just proves that you continue to have top quality practitioners here. The fact that I can get the same care as someone at ABT, despite not being a professional myself, is a real treat! She really thinks about you as a patient trying to put the pieces together and not just doing what works for everyone else. She is very good at explaining what is going on with your body, which as a nurse, I really appreciate understanding the why’s. I could sing her praises for forever, but you just have to book a session to find out...
Read moreI'm a professional dancer and musical theatre performer here in NYC. I've been going to Mims Method since 2020 and I can confidently say that this is, hands down, the best Physical Therapy facility in NYC- ESPECIALLY if you are someone who works in the performing arts.
I have personally worked with 90% of the team at Mims Method and I can confidently say: no matter who you work with, you are in the best hands possible. The best thing about them? They work together as a team. So if they think another team member would be better suited for your needs, they'll make a shift- no ego, no fuss, just getting you the best possible care for your situation.
I initially went to Mims because of 5 bulging disks in my cervical spine. I'd been working with another PT/Chiropractor team that honestly wasn't improving my state, just managing it. When I came to Mims Method, Brittney Mims told me her goal was "to help me get better so she never 'has' to see me again." Not only did she help me heal, but I haven't had a neck spasm in YEARS.
Fast forward to severing my ACL in an audition, I emailed Mims Method moments after it happened with the subject line: "Emergency Eval?" - They saw me within two hours of my injury and referred me to an excellent Orthopedist at HSS that they trusted. I have done my entire ACL recovery with them and I can say that because they specialize in working with dancers and other performing artists, they were able to make an even better, more specific, and personalized physical therapy plan for me than any other physical therapist I have seen.
So, if you've read the review this far, just know that Mims Method Physical Therapy is THE place to go. I will never settle for anything less than the care they give again. I would not be the professional dancer I am without...
Read moreI was a few weeks away from a scheduled hip surgery for a labral tear and FAI when I contacted Brittney to pre-hab. I was pretty sure our treatments would get rid of my remaining doubts about getting the surgery, since I had already tried 6 months of PT. To my surprise, within 2 weeks of treatment (Brittney 2x/week and Jenny 1x/week) I had so much improvement that my surgeon thought I should postpone. Less than 2 months after that, my surgery was canceled and my number of PT sessions per week has been reduced. I feel so much better, I truly can’t believe it was possible without surgery and without constant PT. The combination of providers is such an asset. Brittney, Jenny and Alyssa have very complimentary skills and stay in close contact so when you see one person, the whole team knows what’s going on and uses the info to advance your treatment. I am so impressed to see a practice with multiple providers that doesn’t feel like a PT mill. You get 100% 1:1 attention and the benefit of multiple approaches. Plus, I truly look forward to my appointments.
UPDATE I started strength training with Dan to see if I could take my recovered hip to the next level and get back into weight training. We have built up my strength to the point that I’m dead lifting 100 pounds pain free!! I’m able to do movements and weights I couldn’t even do pre injury. I was really scared to workout at this level following my hip tear but Dan has made me feel safe and excited to progress. He has a very calming energy and has really helped me build both physical and mental strength after a...
