Mommy's African Hair Braiding — Local services in New York

I was in a time crunch and needed my hair braided ASAP. After doing a google search, I decided to try this place. I contacted her the night before through WhatsApp and was really happy that she replied right back. I sent her pics of what I wanted and she told me to come in at 9 when she opens. I was running a tad late but kept her updated the entire time. She didn’t reply back but that was fine. Figured she was getting the shop ready. I arrived and the woman was hesitant to let me in. I told her I had an appointment, assuming she was who was going to braid my hair. She was not. My braider did not arrive for over an hour. She called me and told me she was on the way and had my hand my phone over to the other braider to tell her whatever she had to say. Then she had to find parking. It was giving I forgot I had an appointment. Once she finally arrives she washes my hair and braids it with no breaks. She even asked if I wanted to keep my edges out. She offered me candy. It came out really nice but for the life of me I can’t figure out why my head was in pain when I got knotless braids. Also, I didn’t realize she was using braiding hair that still had chemicals on it. My scalp was in pain and itching like crazy. I did like that the wash was included in the final price. I would go back but just bring my own hair and expect to be there alllll day with a good chance...

There’s actually one person that knows how to do braids well and that’s the really tall one. ( don’t know her name but shout-outs to her ) Everybody else in there isn’t up to proper quality when it comes to the actual style you want.

They are super unprofessional they would talk about you in their language assuming you don’t know what their saying not realizing their language is mostly made up in French so as a Haitian native I understood every last word they said ! Instead of talking about people they need to figure out a skin care routine for the owner cause sis face is fried from all that bleaching she did !

My last experience there I patiently waited to get my hair done cause I only allow one person to touch my hair. They tried to tell me I had to buy my own hair after I watched them provide the hair to everybody else that came in. All I wanted was feed in braids with some design. I feel as if they really didn’t want to to the feed in braids because they couldn’t properly do the designs ( hearts and some zigzag ). Either way I end up Going to “Braid Experts by MiMi” which is the next block over and baby they slayyyeddddd my hair plus they have 2 floors full of experts. I recommend Raggy if you...

i hate posting negative reviews but i hate getting scammed out of money even more. i sent a photo of what i wanted and what i left the shop with was a temu boneless dupe. im pissed and had to take it out next day. i spent $150 on nothing and invested in myself for a photoshoot. officially done with african hair braiding shops. those ladies in there are not STYLISTS, just braiders, which is fine but done accept a task you cannot fulfill. it’s never a good experience—from them braiding your edges off to the nonstop yelling in your ears. i asked for a partial refund and no answer.
