RUSSIAN MANICURE CELEBRITY NAILS — Local services in New York

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place in good faith and would want to know these things before booking.

First, the space is beautiful and the staff really wanted me to be happy. The front desk girl tried very hard and it did not go unnoticed.

It’s important to know there are two undisclosed fees on their website. I was expecting to pay $190 for a same-time mani/pedi. There is also a $15 removal charge (not disclosed on website) and a 4% credit card fee (illegal, I think, and also not disclosed on website). The removal charge really annoys me in particular since it’s essentially a tax on a new customer.

Second, I had to follow up multiple times over the shape of my nails. I showed a picture of short round nails and at first received longer square nails (not cut, just filed). Some were longer than others and the shape still varied. After asking for the to be fixed twice more I ended up leaving and filing them myself at home. The tech felt they were “too short” which is fine, but in that case I’d expect the same shape on all even if the length can’t be exactly what I asked for (and had gotten at many other salons). I got tired of arguing about it and just left. For a premium price, I expected a perfect result.

The 4 hands is a great idea but the tech should switch sides for each hand. I spent half the time with her pulling my arm across my body because the chair was wide and my arm couldn’t reach her desk comfortably. She was aware and had to really hold my arm to flip to get the apex. This to me means something about the setup isn’t quite right and I recommend adjusting the furniture to make it more comfortable.

The final result (after some minor filing at home to even out the shape) still isn’t high enough quality to recommend unfortunately. Now that I’m home and looking more closely in better light, the top coat was not applied evenly and multiple nails have little bumps on them as a result.
