Came back on Oct 26th for a second chance because I spoke with the staff of this location and they have apologized for that particular staff member's utterly abysmal behavior towards me. The staff was super pleasant and accommodating. They went above and beyond to make me feel comfortable while I dined in this time.
I ordered the item I had originally wanted- the Black Truffle Shack Burger. It tasted as amazing as I imagined it would! The meat was well seasoned and the shroom burger part was beautifully cheesy on the inside. And I love the black truffle sauce that pulls it altogether. The truffle flavor was subtle, but I didn't mind it and it works. And their fries were good as always!
I came during the day because today is my only free day to eat here this week, but I'm glad that I gave this location a second chance. I prefer the atmosphere during the day, so if I come back, it'll most likely be during daytime. I had a horrible experience Saturday night on 10/5 with a rude waitstaff, who was the older black man with the white 5 o'clock shadow. I was sitting at a table with my order number sign, he grumbled to me about my "damn number" allegedly not being placed in a spot where it could be easily seen. I tried to not let it get to me.
Then the table next to me cleared and I decided to move to that table instead for better comfort and visibility for my number sign. He passed by my table again and complained/nagged at me for moving to another table when he had previously stated his point about my number being visible.
Maybe I shouldn't have moved tables, but I wouldn't have moved if he hadn't complained about my sign visibility in the first place. There were many ways to politely let me know to make sure my number tag was visible. I felt extremely uncomfortable by this experience and decided to go to pick up instead and took my order to go.
The staff at the pickup counter was a lot more pleasant than that mean guy who was picking on me about the sign. They calmed me down and made sure that I didn't feel distressed any further. They were also kind enough to change my order from "dine-in" to "take out" because I didn't want to stay in the restaurant after being treated very poorly at my table. They get a second star ONLY for the better treatment at pickup.
Otherwise, I will NEVER go back there or EVER recommend anyone to eat there for a late night dinner. In fact, if I'm ever near that restaurant again, I'm going to tell people going in to eat elsewhere that's open. Even Roma Pizza a block away would have been a much better place to eat than this place, which is a shame because I loved the truffle Shroom burger that I ordered. I appreciate the kitchen staff for making this burger and the lady who was so understanding about my situation.
I recommend other Shake Shack locations than this giant piece of regret called the Herald Square location. That man had almost ruined my Truffle Shroom burger experience if it wasn't so tasty. But I will divert customers from eating at this location for late night cravings and warn them about this horrible man. I will even make a Craigslist ad somewhere warning people about...

This has got to be one of the best Shake Shacks I've ever visited.
The vibe here is absolutely grouse - it's buzzing with energy and has such a great atmosphere. Despite being always packed (which speaks volumes about its popularity), the service is impressively fast and efficient.
What really stands out is how spotlessly clean the place is. It's clear the staff takes pride in maintaining a top-notch dining environment. And speaking of dining, the dine-in options are fantastic! There's plenty of seating available, including booths and tables that can accommodate both small and large groups.
The food? Classic Shake Shack deliciousness! Whether you're craving their iconic ShackBurger, crispy fries, or one of their thick, creamy milkshakes, you're in for a treat.
If you're in the Herald Square area, this is an absolute must-stop. Trust me, your taste buds will thank you! The combination of great food, quick service, and awesome ambiance makes this Shake Shack location a standout in NYC's fast-casual scene.
Don't let the crowds deter you - the line moves quickly, and the experience is totally worth it. Shake Shack Herald Square has nailed the formula for a perfect quick meal in the heart...
Read moreAlways heard I should stop at one of these as an iconic place to visit when in the city. Felt like they should change their name to burger shack. The burgers were great, no question there. I had the shake stack, and other then a slight burn on the roof of my mouth from molten cheese, nothing to complain about, even the cheese was good. My kid had a bacon burger and the bacon was just fine, didn't seem old and chewy. The fries were decent, not as crispy as they could have been but decent. The shake, which I expected to be decent based on their name and hype on their board was kinda pathetic, in a McDonalds sort of way. As in it had the same consistency and flavor. If it wasn't for the cookie chunks, drinking it through a straw would have been effortless, but due to the cookies it was as easy to drink out of the cup as they get. Burger king makes a much nicer one for a better price, and a better size. Better then the typical fast food, but I wouldn't consider it as good as a Nathans or Carl's Jr and undeserving of any kind of icon status, just a half-way decent fast food burger joint that shouldn't be named for...
