I used The Orchard Tailor Service by suggestion of a costume designer friend of a friend. They had said they were professional, cheap, and did good work. That was all I needed to hear! I took a bridesmaid dress there to be hemmed and taken in a bit. They said it’d be 2 weeks to complete. I had some time before the wedding, so didn’t matter. Went in 2 weeks later before work (their hours are pretty atrocious if you don’t live near by), and didn’t have time to try it on, since they opened 10 minutes late. Tried it on that night, but ended up taking it back, because it was still really big on me. When I tried it on there, the man at the desk said, “oops. Looks like we forgot to take it in.” I was floored. It was on the ticket, and literally just needed two things done. I let them have a second shot though because I’d already paid the $85. Went back a week later - the date specified on the ticket - and they said it wasn’t ready yet. Then blamed me for coming in early, when the ticket had the day and date circled on it. When I pointed this out to them, they told me to come back in a few days. When I went back (round 4), I made sure to try it on at the shop, and the top no longer fit right. It’s a strapless dress, and one of the cups lays oddly and protrudes now. This wasn’t the case when I got it. When I showed them, all they said was, “it wasn’t them, they hadn’t touched the seam when taking it in, but they could keep it longer to fix (again).” I told them that I’d rather have a refund and go somewhere else at this point. Their response was, “it’s not like you missed your event, so it doesn’t matter. Us forgetting to take it in the first time wasn’t a big deal. You have time.” At this point, a seamstress from the back came to the desk smiling and laughing. Didn’t help the situation, that’s for sure. In the end, wouldn’t suggest going here unless you have at least 8+ weeks to your event, or are ready to take your clothes elsewhere after...
Read moreUnfortunately, I cannot recommend this business at all. It took over two weeks and multiple attempts just to get my pants back. The team working there are friendly, but it should not have been this difficult to get my pants repaired or frustrating to get them back.
I dropped off four pants right before Easter weekend - three pants were just a simple hem job and one pair had a hole that needed repair. It was a great, efficient visit - I prepaid and was in and out in under ten minutes. I was cited the following Wednesday to come pick up the pants because of the holiday rush. Not speedy like other same-day places, but fair.
Then the farce started. Attempt #2: that following week, the pants still were not ready. Clearly they had not started working on them at all. Was told to return in an hour Attempt #3: return in an hour, pants are still not ready. Attempt #4: days later, go back to pick up the pants. They cannot find the pants!! Attempt #5: more days pass, finally get the pants.
I rarely leave reviews, especially bad ones, but this place really got my goat. Go to the many other tailors...
Read moreVery poor quality alterations. I took a gown here for alterations in a pinch because my regular spot down the street was closed. I had to ask them to expedite my request, which they agreed to do, and my dress was ready when I went to pick it up. While I really appreciate them expediting my request and having my dress ready, I am really unhappy with the very poor quality of the alterations. The hem that they shortened is frayed, the liner is longer than the hem, and they tried to fix a hole in the side of the dress by sewing it together (I didn’t know that was going to be their fix, or I would not have done it) which became puckered and more visible than before (see photos). They actually ruined my dress and I may have to go to another tailor to see if they can fix it, so I’m pretty upset and disappointed about that. I wish they were upfront as most quality tailors would be - if they aren’t able to fix it without messing it up, they shouldn’t to...
