Urban Illusions — Local services in New York

We went last night and my head is still spinning today! What great magic! To be honest, I had modest expectations for the show. It’s smaller (and less expensive!) and in a basement. Last year we attended the Asi Wind up close magic show, and were blown away. Although that show was probably more slick and produced, Urban Illusions was mind blowing magic! Since there are only 20 people in the audience, it gives every person a chance to interact And it makes it feel very personal. The guy sitting in front of me kept shouting “No way!!” after almost every trick. So much fun!

We arrived at about 7:40 and chose 4 seats in the second row. Easy to see everything. You are allowed to stand up to see better but it was unnecessary. You can even take pictures though I forgot because I was so caught up in the experience.

This is like a hidden secret in NYC. Grab an early dinner on St Marks and you can catch the 8 pm show easily. I’m going to recommend this to all my NYC friends as well as my out of town visitors. It’s so memorable and unique. A great answer to “What did you do...

To be totally honest, I’m not sure why the show got so many 5-star reviews. I’ve seen multiple magic shows in the city and sadly this was my least favorite. Nothing blew my mind, and I accidentally figured out a trick when I participated…this could’ve been prevented if he gave a little direction on how to handle the prop (will not say more than that as not to reveal what it is). From that moment on, I couldn’t get back into the show. In theory, the intimate setting and interactive nature should’ve wowed me, but sadly that was not the case. And to top it off the price point is very high for what it was…not worth the ROI...

My fiancée reserved the entire venue for my surprise birthday show for us and 20 of our friends. This was hands down one of the best magic shows we’ve ever been to (we’ve been to Speakeasy Magic, Dan White, Chamber Magic, 69 Atlantic, Magic Castle) and everyone had a blast! Some of our friends have never been to a magic show and now they’re spoiled forever, the bar was set too high. Thanks to Hayden and Andrea for the best birthday ever!! And even better that...
