If you're considering renting or renewing a lease from Veritas (aka RentSFNow, aka Greentree), be cautious and be ready to be the "responsible" one in the relationship. For me, resources like the Housing Rights Committee of SF, the Tenants Union, and the Rent Board have been my best friend and advocate for dealing with Greentree/RentSFNow/Veritas' various instances of shady practices.
In my experience, you have to chase down answers multiple times to get resolution on requests. And once you get answers, you should ask a few more layers of questions to truly know what they're talking about. For example, given my roommate was laid off due to the COVID pandemic, I emailed a month ago to ask what our options were for reduced rent.
After many emails back and forth (for 19+ days) to try to really understand what the response was, I understood that I "offered" this "deal" that would be: PART 1 - a new 12 month lease signed and sealed on paper, at my current monthly rate, with a 2 month penalty for breaking the lease early.... Plus PART 2 - a "verbal agreement" that I would be given an "effective discount" in the form of a "5-week allowance" paid via a Visa gift card that is taxable (so really 30% less than the stated value), to be paid two months into the new 12 month lease.
They might have well just said, no, we can't offer you anything.
Nowhere during these email exchanges did they ever mention the rent protection programs the SF Mayor had put into place, and then extended. Thanks to my own research, I have started to gather more information about those.
Side note to acknowledge my current resident manager who individually deserves more stars. Only in the past 7 months of my 4 years as a tenant do I have a competent and responsive resident manager who lives in the same building. Unfortunately her ability to get things done is limited to what Greentree/RentSFNow/Veritas allows...

** EDIT in response to Veritas' reply : 1) there is no elevator in my building so that couldn't have been the reason but I understand that might be the case in other buildings. If I had had the chance to speak during our call, perhaps we could have better understood each other which sadly leads me to 2) I was yelled at for 3 straight minutes by a property manager who when I asked several times to "please get a word in" during the yelling, yelled back "no, actually you can't," before yelling a little more and hanging up on me.
My disappointed and disheartened review is not because of the actual answer to my question (I am a reasonable person and can understand the answer was no), but because of the way in which I was treated and that the situation was handled. I think everyone should treat each other with a baseline of kindness and decency. That said, I would love for Noel to have a better understanding of customer service which seems like a fair and reasonable ask and if he and/or anyone else is interested in having an objective, levelheaded discussion, I'd be more than happy to chat.
That said, I appreciate your response and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey are incredibly disorganized and awful to work with.
Specifically, Noel Dent. He sent me a threatening email when I broke a āruleā that they never disclosed to me. I threw away a large trash item at the wrong time but they never disclosed to me the calendar to do so, so I got a threatening email.
I bought a place in the building 2 days before as well. They donāt realize who they are working for.
They need to learn how to communicate with people. Each time they communicate with me, I hear the same message from at least 4 different people. They are really incredibly unprofessional and repeatedly harass me.
Lastly, it doesnāt look like Iām the first female to flag Noelās actions towards women. I had interactions with Arielle from Veritas and she was respectful and professional. Please someone take action so Noel learns to treat women (and just people)...
