I heard the instructor described her class as organized chaos. I would describe it as just chaos. There was a lack of clear instructions + acknowledgment of everyone in the class. I am not new to Pilates but I am new to this studio/instructor. She would showcase her complex flows once & would walk to the other side of the room, giving special attention to a group of stereotypical Pilates women. The instructor did come over and corrected me a few times which was helpful but without commenting that I should have taken an intro class. I found this to be super ironic considering I was copying regular WhitFit customers and her friend. In addition, she would show the flow so quick and walk across the room. Or she would demonstrate the moves in an area that was only visible to that specific group of women vs doing the moves at the center of the studio. I found this to be super frustrating. Even the person behind me who also was new was clearly struggling to learn the moves but the instructor gave her no help.
Even Reformer Pilates instructors who demonstrate the moves on the floor while the class is on machines, are more clear than the WhitFit instructor who can freely move and who could have done the moves with her class. Regular instructors would go in front of the class to showcase the move so everyone could follow. It was not the case here.
Iāve taken numerous Pilates classes in NYC but this was the most disappointing class I've ever experienced. Iām not one to leave a negative comment but considering how expensive workout classes are in NYC, the studio needs to improve.
UPDATE: Iām very disappointed by the studio's response to my review, which shifted blame to me for wanting āpersonal attentionā. The focus should be on the instructorās ability to engage with the whole class rather than just a select few who Whit clearly favored. I did try another class with a different instructor, and that experience was much betterāhe was clear, attentive, and demonstrated moves with us vs the other instructor. Please take accountability and say...
Ā Ā Ā Read morei have been going to whitfit for two years now, it is truly, the only workout i will ever do, and the only studio i will ever go to. First of all, the fact that it is not intimidating like literally all workout studios is the best part. you are greeted by actual PEOPLE with smiles and who really care about you. most nyc studios, the ppl are always so rude and cold it makes you automatically hate the workout. whitfit creates a safe space for all, and all are welcome, which is why i love it. whitfit also has a great range of classes, so it is for everyone. i have never been in better shape than when i started whitfit 2 years ago. it actually has made me addicted to working out. i love that we start with stretching and end with stretching and gratitude. unlike other places, where they quickly just turn us over and cant wait for us to get out. the techers at whitfit all CARE and make you feel special and strong. it is truly a fun community. everyone who i bring loves it as much as i do. If I had money to invest in whitfit and make it the next soul cycle, i would. but honestly, the charm of whitfit is that it is local, owned by a woman, and every detail is cared for. i love how attentive whitney is to every aspect of her space. and it makes for a better workout when the owner has such a strong presence. cannot recommend this place enough. it...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIām extremely disappointed with the experience at your studio this morning. Myself and five other women arrived just four minutes after class startedādue to significant train delaysāand were met with a locked door. While I understand policies around late arrivals, four minutes hardly seems unreasonable, especially given the circumstances.
What was especially frustrating was that a staff member saw us waiting, refused to even open the door to speak with us, and simply walked away. Not only were we not given the chance to explain or ask about joining the next class, we were treated with complete disregard.
This kind of treatment is not only unprofessional but also incredibly unwelcoming. Iāve taken this class before and unfortunately received similarly dismissive behavior. On top of that, the studio itself is not well-maintainedāthe space is dirty, and the equipment is outdated.
We will not be returning, and I would not recommend this...
