Baranof Jewelers — Local services in Park City

I'm not one for impulse purchases above a certain amount. I also never pay retail as a matter of principle (nor do I post reviews).

My spouse and I were strolling along Main Street after a day of skiing and I wanted to stop in "just to see the sparkly things". I am a collector who shops far and wide, always on the lookout for standout pieces, so didn't expect much.

OMG. I was blown away at the collection. I worked with Seth who helped me find the perfect sapphire ring to compliment a couple of other diamond rings that I love and happened to be wearing. What he found for me is so perfectly complimentary to the rings I was wearing -- as if it was a custom addition. It was a no brainer and I bought it on the spot -- I must emphasize how uncharacteristic this is for me. Generally, if I love something above a certain price point, I wait a week and if I'm still thinking about it, then I go buy it. Not so this time -- I knew immediately that I would love this forever and it would become a family heirloom.

I bought it just over 3 hours ago and I cannot. stop. marveling at it! It's so unique; I've never seen anything quite like it, yet understated and elegant.

Seth and Tony were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. There were other items I saw that I am still thinking about...we'll see what the rest of the week holds, haha.

Baranof went $1000 over budget on our custom engagement ring without ever communicating with us. They regularly ignored our calls and didn't return our texts and voicemails. Multiple times, when I called for updates, the call taker would say "I'll investigate and I promise to call you back by the end of the day"; they never did. They sized my fiancee three times for her ring and still produced a final product that was a full size too small. We were promised about 8 dates of completion that weren't hit- at one point, two and a half weeks turned into over two months. Twice, we were told the ring was done and went in to pick it up, only to find out no one knew what we were talking about. My husband and I first came into contact with Baranof in 2021 by pure chance, and we have been so pleased with every interaction we have had. We are both in customer service and, after our interaction with Tom, we decided this would be our “jeweler” regardless of our home location in Texas. It was such a memorable experience as we unexpectedly redesigned my engagement ring to fit me perfectly! Since then, they have always been prompt in responding, and are quick to stand behind their products. I have needed some repair work to my ring (admittedly probably a little rough with it), and there has never been a question on getting it shipped out, fixed, and turned back around to me as soon as possible - including a handwritten note of gratitude! I was disappointed to see a negative review. In our business, it’s always best to remember that there are always two sides to every story - or at least a little more background to consider. Take the opportunity to get to know this establishment, and their quality of work and relationships!
