I played my very first escape room at Reed Between the Lines, four years ago, and since then I’ve played about 30 while on my various travels. Last night, I returned to where it all started to play the last currently available room at this location, Gingerbread Cottage. We took our friend and her children, so our group had a nice mix of experience and youth. Everyone was fully engaged and had a great time, and there are so many puzzles in this room that it’s up to the players how to proceed. You could all work together on one thing at a time, or each person tackle something individually, or splinter into smaller groups. There is a real sense of satisfaction in barrelling through the earlier puzzles, which are accessible enough that our ten year old figured several things out for himself, but without being so easy that you feel like you’re being spoon-fed. Best of all, this is not so much of an “escape room”, as there is no ticking time bomb or no crazed killer out to get you. It’s completely family friendly, and not at all scary.
Laura the owner is a lovely lady who had previously been our game master for our Desert Island adventure at the same location, and she genuinely takes a special interest in making sure you and your group have a great time. Definitely bring your family to this one, even if nobody has done an escape...
Read moreOur group had a really great experience here on a Friday evening. The location is a little odd, but inside it's cozy and feels very homey. Our host gave us a very warm reception and was fully committed to the pirate themed game, accent and all. We especially appreciated how she showed us how directional locks work and told us what not to waste our time on. There were lockers in which to stow our personal belongings, and we were allowed to take off our masks during the game. The room was small and not overcrowded which helped prevent distractions. We loved that the floor was made of real sand and the room smelled like coconut.
With her clear directions and hilarious hints we were able to solve the game with five minutes to spare. I would like to suggest that they make the speaker system in the escape room louder as it was hard to hear unless we were completely silent. We were a group of 7 and at any given time 2 of us were just standing around while the others were crowded around a lock, so I would definitely suggest limiting your group to 4-5 people for an optimal experience.
Overall we had such a blast and definitely want to try the other...
Read moreFirst time in an escape room and had a blast at Reed Between The Lines. We had less people than what was suggested for the room and we just barely made it, which added to the fun. Initially, I was concerned that this was going to be one of those escape rooms that feed you to hungry lemurs in the form of some kind of primate cannibalism. But that wasn't the case. It was very safe and the staff attentive to our progress. We asked that we not be locked in and they said that they don't lock the doors but we insisted that they not lock the doors and they did not lock the doors which was also very nice. I felt challenged by most of the puzzles, a few felt more like we lucked into figuring them out than unlocking through brute intellect and a couple we ended up asking for hints but the majority we were able to suss out. For full disclosure, I've worked with the owners in a non-escape-room environment in the past and entered into the experience already aware that they are lovely...
