Awesome little store. Very unique selection of things, from old records and coins, to rocks and minerals, and lots of neat dragon themed things. Very cool, interesting place. Lots of things to look at.
Only knocking a star for the service. Was never greeted when I showed up. In fact, I had been browsing the store for several minutes before I finally noticed a lady sitting at the back of the store, silently watching me as if I was going to steal something. Granted, I was in my somewhat dusty work clothes, but the reason I was there was to spend several hundred dollars on coins. After the awkward service and somewhat limited coin selection, I decided to pass on making a purchase. In contrast, the two other groups that showed up while I was there were greeted with a smile.
Really cool store, but make sure you change out of your work clothes so you aren't judged by your appearance... (for the record, I own a successful web development agency, but I'm also paid a pretty penny to act as an engineering inspector on specialized construction projects all over the state. It involves getting a little dusty... hardly means I'm poor or a thief.)
EDIT in response to the owner's reply:
The area was dead when I visited; no art festival, and hardly anyone around. I stopped by in the afternoon on a weekday and was the only one in the shop when I arrived. I understand being overlooked when busy... but the shop wasn't busy at all, and I wasn't overlooked. When I noticed the lady in the back, she seemed to have been quietly observing me for some time, though I was never greeted. Not a big deal, but I couldn't help but suspect it was how I was dressed, since the next two groups to enter shortly after me were treated completely...
Read moreBuyer Beware! I went in to buy 10 gold M L coins. Greg asked me if I wanted to buy and I said yes but I didn't have my check book with me and I would get it from my wife who was in the car. She did not have the check book with her and I came back in the store and told Greg I couldn't buy today. Greg told me that he already put the order in and told me to "pay my bill". I didn't like his style but was willing to overlook it as I did want to complete the transaction. I went to my bank yesterday and I have all the cash for this purchase. I was sitting here waiting for my wife to bring the car. I prefer cash so there is no trail tied to my bank account. So when Greg called me a few minutes ago and the first words out of his mouth was " I'm calling to find out when you're going to pay your bill ----remember the money you owe me". I was offended by Greg's tone of voice and his accusing me of being dishonest or untrustworthy so I told him that I didn't like his attitude. I guess I should have told him that the first time. I also told him that he should have waited to place the order when I was paying. That's how it is done in the real world unless you are making a purchase using credit. When I buy a car and find out that I thought I had my check book but I didn't and come back 5 minutes later and tell them sorry I didn't bring my check book they don't tell me too bad all the paperwork and licensing has been done and you owe me $20000. That is definitely NOT how business should be done. I think Greg wanted to get me to feel "committed" and put pressure on me to pay the bill that HE created. Just be careful doing...
Read moreI went into Greg's Gold Ore Store yesterday. Greg was so happy to see me. It had been a little while since I had seen him and his sweet wife. Greg is truly a really great man and a wonderful human being. He has always really listened to what I had to say. When I talk with him and ask him questions, he looks me right in the eye. And . . . has always given me an honest and thoughtful answer. He really cares about this community. He truly wants to be of a good help to the people that come into their family store. There have been times when the store has been really busy, but with a little patience on my part he will always help me. I have watched him and his family go the extra hundred miles to really help people out. I have worked with the public a lot though out my life. Some people can be mean, I have seen Greg deal with some pretty ruff characters, always with diplomacy and aplomb. It takes a great individual to behave in this matter under stressful situations. I want to share something that I personally witnessed in his store. A lady came in, very distraught with fear. He and his family did their best to help her. She was in fear of her life and needed proof of an incident to get the protection she needed. In stead of telling her they did not want to get involved, without hesitation Greg helped her. Greg has great courage, and that is something that is sadly lacking in our society now days. You can tell that Greg and his wife are really good parents by how respectful and caring his children are that work in the store. The store looks great and it is a really interesting and fun place to go to while in St....
