Been here three times since opening. Food is good, when you can order it. We asked for gluten free options and were told they were salads. We went one night and were told no food was available because it was after 9. The next time we called and they said food was available until 10 45?
I would say skip the meal since it's classified as a bar. The cocktails however? Every one we ordered tasted light and artificial. Their beer selection, what they are supposed to be known for, sub par. They have the standard lines on tap, nothing special in my opinion.
The atmosphere is what really threw us off though. It's in a nice location, but the main area echoes like crazy. You can barely hear yourself think. There was a table of women the first time and the echo amplified their conversation so loud we literally couldn't talk to each other. Our ears were ringing when we left. I'm not being dramatic, it's that bad and my family said this is why they don't want to come back.
They seem to have fun events with live music and dj's. But again, the acoustics in the restaurant make it so awfully noisy that it puts you on edge instead. It's really strange.
The real reason I'm leaving a one star review though, unfortunately is the service. The people at the front door especially. It seems that they are just security for the bar, but wow the experience I had last time was insulting. And we've only had one waiter who was actually nice. But last visit will be my last, in that the security was so short with my family & I, that the manager stepped in and actually made it worse. It has nothing to do with Utah liquor laws, but unfortunately poor training and they almost wanted to turn us away it seemed. They told me my license was invalid because it was a temporary, but I literally had gotten it from the dmv a week ago and they insinuated that it was fake because I looked too young. I had used it many times this week at other bars in this state and they were up to date on the new temporary licenses. But the two people at the front door seemed adamant to turn me away and to be RUDE ABOUT IT. I maybe would have understood if they were polite and explained, but all the security person kept saying was "we can not accept a temporary license" even after I asked them why a license issued from the DMV was invalid. It's more than them turning me away for an illogical purpose, it was that even the manager was exceptionally short and ill tempered with me and would not even listen to me when I said it was not expired, it was a valid and temporary license and they refused to scan it.
Honestly please just go anywhere else for food and drink in st george. This place is so unorganized every time we visit that after that fiasco we are never coming back. Wood Ash Rye next door is so much better and their staff is fabulous. George's across the street and the Zion Brewery have better beer selection. Until Hive gets new management and a new vibe, stay far away.
edit: now the place is trying to claim my review as invalid... let me tell you that my experiences are VALID. I've been here three times and I think that's plenty to form my opinions. just because the bar doesn't like it doesn't mean they are false. I went here with many family members who can corroborate the service here is atrocious. I mean, just look at the way they responded. Instead of trying to make things better and offer a solution, they want to argue and try to defame my character.
I have no desire to argue about them not accepting my State ID... I've used it before and since after this experience at other bars and they all know it's an official and valid license. It's the way the manager and others working there treated me that was so appalling... and it just made all the previous awful experiences there even more reason to stop going and that's why I left this review. Hopefully we'll get a new bar soon that has GOOD...
Read moreWorst manager and service I have ever experienced. With a party of 4 we came in and bought several expensive drinks. It was packed and we patiently waited 20 minutes to even have the waitress see us to take our order. Later on, a friend of a friend sat down at our table and had brought his own outside drink and poured it into an empty glass at our table.
He was not with us, I did not know him. He sat down at our table to talk. He placed the drink at our table. We did not want to be associated with this behavior, so when he walked away, I emptied the tiny bit left into an empty shot glass (which we did not drink) and removed the can from off our table.
The manager came over, and she apparently had been dating this man, gave him a hug and talked with him. Not once did she address his behavior. She must have been turned down by him in the past, because a few moments later, she decided to have my entire party kicked out in a very rude way, making a scene.
When we asked why, she said it was because we had the can from outside. A can we did not bring. When the man came and admitted it was his, had nothing to do with us and offered to leave himself, they still made my entire table leave.
When we left, my boyfriend tried to talk to the manger, he did not even know what was happening other than them telling us to leave. Sadly, she kept just telling us to leave refusing to explain what had happened other than saying we had a can. (Which makes me realize this had nothing to do with us, it was her ego seeing 5 beautiful women sit around the guy who had rejected her). We paid our bill, even tipped the waitress, did not make a big scene) we mentioned to the manager that it was fine and we did not need to give them any more of our money, we would go somewhere else. This women was so awful, When we got to the new establishment, we were not allowed to enter. She had called all the other locations that served drinks, and told them all not to allow us to come in. I understand if someone is rowdy, disruptive, and dishonest. We were NONE of these things. We were polite, paying and repeat customers. The manager had earlier, before we were asked to leave, taken the incorrect drink off the table (without talking to any of us), asked for the can, which we happily gave. They then told us to leave, not explaining anything. We had to ask. The manager did nothing to explain the rules, educate and assist us. Poor form. I find it very sad that a manager of an establishment would let her personal ego destroy business. She lost good upstanding customers today, which if you look at the “can” she accused us for, it was worth pennies compared to all we have paid and would have paid in the future. I hope the owner knows what terrible management they have. They do not treat people like people, but only as a...
Read moreThis place was absolutely incredible! I got a late-night craving and was thrilled to find them open and just around the corner. It's a bar, so be sure to bring your ID. The service was outstanding—our waiter, Todd, was exceptionally attentive and happily catered to all of our unique requests.
The food was phenomenal and perfectly satisfied our late-night cravings. The quality was top-notch, and we were pleasantly surprised that none of us experienced the usual post-carb bloating, even though we indulged in a lot of comfort food. The portions were just right—enough to leave us satisfied without waste. We even saved a slice for our dad back at the Airbnb, and he absolutely loved it!
The bartenders were equally impressive, crafting expertly mixed drinks tailored to our requests. Even when they couldn’t accommodate a specific request, they let us know with such professionalism and kindness.
The atmosphere was delightful, with music at the perfect volume, and the overall vibe was upscale yet welcoming. From the service to the food to the ambiance, everything was exceptional. I can’t recommend this place enough—definitely...
