I ended up here to in celebration of a birthday and spend time with family that happened to be in town! I think it's a really cool idea and I love the concept of being able to make my own jewelry. In fact, I did manage to make a piece that is easily one of the most sentimental items own-- and I will absolutely cherish it! That said, I believe it's worth mentioning the price and time it took.
Despite it being appointment only. I don't think they properly planned for the amount of people they allowed to make appointments that day. My group was four people, and they took nearly 2 hours over the timeframe they estimated. They gave my group little attention. My aunt ended up having to leave early because they took SO long on our group and she had prior appointments. The other group finished an entire hour before us, plus a couple did more than one piece of jewelry. We didn't really do anything unusual and between the four of us one necklace and three rings. We were there about 5-6 hours total.
Then price... well, I think they've got decent quality stuff. But I believe it's way over-priced. Take a look at the picture of the stones, nearly all those small stones are at LEAST $20, some upwards of $50 to $70 per stone. On top of the stone, you pay for specific trim, the default chain, and tons of little add-ons along the way. It's worth noting you can bring your own stone... but they still charge you $15 to use something you bring yourself. The finished pendant you see below cost about $125 for the pendant and an additonal $100 for the chain. (Default chain is significantly cheaper)
Overall, can be a really fun and worth the one-time experience. But I don't think the quality and service are good enough to go back...
Read moreI will try to make this short and to the point. My sister and I went in for her birthday. We stood there (because there’s no seating) for a good 5 minutes with no one there to greet us. Once the instructor showed up she was very vague on instructions of how things work. So we were a bit confused as to what we were supposed to be doing. Once we picked our stone which by the way are not all authentic and are so expensive. Ranging from $20-$70 just for a fake stone. So be careful there. Most of them are plastic or glass stones with a few authentic stones. Once we started making the rings, the instructor did most of the work. We literally only got to hold the torch, which defeats the purpose of making your own ring, right? We were pretty disappointed about not having more hands on making with our rings.lastly , we were so disappointed with how the rings turned out. They looked sooo cheap and bad. Like a child made them. And the worst part of it all was the total price we paid. We paid $280 for just two rings and that was trying to keep it on the cheaper end. this shop is so ridiculously over priced for what you get. They also ask you for a tip at the end. Which is confusing because isn’t that their job? Either way we tipped her $15 still. And we went home not loving our rings. I’m very sad about our experience because we were super happy to try this place out and looked forward to continue going for special occasions. But sadly we won’t be returning.
So key points here…. -bad customer service -no hands on crafting yourself (for the most part) -very very over priced -rings turned out incredibly...
Read moreMy daughter accidentally found St George Gemstudio four months ago just as they we’re opening. She’s in her mid-20s and so her husband, myself ( not usually my ‘thing’) and my wife all made some jewelry there and spent about three hours having the most fun I can remember in a long time. We got to pick out our own gems, our own settings and had quite a bit of hands on very friendly help and felt the jewelry was not only beautiful but better than we could have purchased in an already -made jewelry store.
Two weeks later we took another daughter her husband and her seven children all back to the Gemstudio and spent most of the afternoon making all kinds of jewelry and they had the same experience: lots of fun, proud of the work that we had help doing and thought it was a very fair price. We actually gave them a 60% tip both times.
I then told my daughter who is in college in Salt Lake City to take some of her friends to the Gemstudio there and they had the same experience and my daughter even applied to work there.
I am really surprised at the less than nice reviews I read here. Three of them sound like they were carbon copies all mentioning the same thing in the same order and I wonder what that’s all about.
I recommend it to all of my friends, and we go whenever we can for fun and we’ve never been disappointed in the slightest. We’ve also never had trouble reaching them and we have made appointments for each of our visits and they were ready for us with adequate seating and adequate...
