Such a fun little place to learn about the desert and the wildlife that lives there. My children love to go watch the tortoises, Gila monster, and snake that live there, and the staff is always so happy to answer questions and teach them about this beautiful area. This is a beautiful place to hike and camp that's off the beaten path. My family and I went for a day hike, and we really liked the red rock canyons and the beautiful trees that found a way to thrive in such a hot and dry place. Nicely preserved dirt, rocks, and bushes. There are supposed to be turtles out there, but I haven't seen one in those parts since the late 90's. My bet is the good ol boys wanted to lock up some land and try to look like environmentally aware politicians. They have been whittling little pieces here and there for reasons they deem appropriate.
