Big Mountain Alchemy — Local services in Salt Lake City

I’m tempted to give one star, but I’ll hold off.

I found what I thought was a beautiful scarf here. Originally 18 on clearance for 12. I thought it was a steal. First couple times wearing it I quickly learned the slightest snag would tear a hole. I examined it and found evidence of a cut tag. Searched on google and found the exact scarf on SHEIN and for about 3-4 dollars.

I try and support small businesses, and purchased several items from here, but looking at them now it’s clear 90% of what I purchased was wholesale Chinese products marketed as handmade/preloved/small businesses.

I was thinking of returning, but I won’t and I need to let others know. Consignment stores selling cheap products from offline is becoming far too common, and I won’t be quiet when I notice it.

Response to owners comment: while I’m sure a good amount of items are legitimate second hand and vintage, there were five of these scarves in the same style, I highly doubt the seller found 5 of the same...

I had such a great experience at this store today! From the moment I walked in, the owner made me feel welcome. He was incredibly nice and was super sweet and helpful. What really stood out to me was how genuine and easy he was to talk to—it didn’t feel like just a quick transaction, but more like a friendly conversation. It’s so refreshing to meet someone who truly cares about their customers and takes pride in what they do. The store itself was very clean, well-organized, and had such a great atmosphere. It was easy to browse, and everything was displayed nicely, which made the experience even better. I was also impressed by the variety of choices they had—there was something for everyone, and the prices were very reasonable for the quality you’re getting. It felt like a place that really values both its products and its customers.

I’m not originally from Utah. But my girlfriend and I went into the mall where this store is located and really enjoyed it. First, immediately upon entering the store, the owner/co-owner greeted us and asked how we were doing. Then after I had made my rounds in the shop, I ended up not buying anything. However, there is an amazing selection of everything and fits my personality very well. I even had about an hour long conversation with the owner while my girlfriend continued looking around in the store. She ended up getting multiple items for only $30-40 which is very cheap compared to our home state and considering what she bought. In the end the owner gave us our own selection of five stickers for free and he didn’t rush us out the door when they closed. If I had more money to spend I. Would have spent my money here. Very...
