Pib's Exchange — Local services in Salt Lake City

This place is awesome, they always have a really good trendy selection of clothes and it's a great place to find full halloween costumes for a fraction of the cost. My only complaint is when I came in looking for halloween makeup the makeup artist there was super rude on two separate occasions I came in. She has an attitude like she can't be bothered to help you at all.

The last time I came in I was looking for a bald cap. After waiting to be helped it seemed I was going to have to be more agressive to get help so I finally just said, "hey, can you tell me where I can get a bald cap?" And she said yeah its over by the wigs. So I go ok and I go to the wig counter where no one seemed to be so I had to again wait over there until someone came around. When someone finally did come up she ended up helping a lady that had come to the counter just a second before, while I had been waiting there for a few minutes so that pissed me off. Then as I tried to speak to ask her a question someone in the dressing room called to her to come help her so she left and I was stuck there waiting some more. Finally she comes back and I ask for the bald cap and she says, oh we only have wig caps over here, if you want a bald cap you need to go the makeup area. I said I was just over there and the makeup artist said to come here. She said oh I'm sorry about that and walked me over to the makeup area again, which I was happy she did so I wasn't just going back and forth by myself. She then said to the makeup artist, "you told her the bald caps were by the wigs? " and the makeup artist just scowled and said, "She asked for a wig cap, NOT a bald cap." I was very taken aback by her snotty attitude, I work in a customer service role too and I would never act like that toward a customer even if I really did think they asked for something else. A simple, "oh I'm sorry about that, maybe I misheard you here they are" would have been fine. But she had to act as if I was a bane on her existence and wanted to cover her own ass by claiming I asked for something different in a snotty attitude. And I know I didn't ask for a wig cap because I went to cosmetology school and I know the difference between the two.

I tried to sell some of my clothing here, but as I sat petting the store cat, I watched the buyer go through some other people's bags of clothing. He eventually called me, telling me they were ready.

I walked up, and he said that they weren't able to buy any clothing from me, but gave me a 10% off coupon. I asked why, and he said "Condition issues." I asked "Like what?" And he said "Just... condition issues." I opened the bag, and it looked like the clothing hadn't even been looked at. The coat I put in the bag last was still on top, and all of the shirts that I had folded and put in the bag were still folded and in the same order. I have my doubts about whether they even actually looked at the clothes.

There was even a shirt I had gotten from Pib's a couple of months ago and worn once in the bag, and all of the clothing was in great shape - I had taken all of the damaged or worn stuff to DI.

So yeah, they have decent clothing and a cool cat, but I get the feeling the buyer didn't feel like doing their job, and they couldn't give me a specific reason why the couldn't take my clothes other than nonexistent condition issues.

Update from 2022: I have returned to Pibb's a number of times since writing that initial review, staff has always been really friendly and helpful. My experience that led to my initial review must've been a fluke! Definitely come check out...

Whenever I explore Sugar House I have to stop into Pibs Exchange. I have visited Pibs for years and every visit is fulfilling. I like shopping and selling clothing at Pibs because of their exotic taste in style. I once walked into pibs with clothing to sell and they told me they purchase clothing with little to no wear and tear, brands, and funky styles. and looking around the store you can definitely tell they have accumulated some interesting items. From fancy dresses, to everyday dress, pibs provides clothing with shnaz. In fact, Most of the items in my closet have been purchased at Pibs Exchange and I get compliments all the time. Not only is the clothing interesting but the staff and owners are amazing. They are courteous, helpful, unique, artistic, and kind. They are easy to get along with, and very helpful throughout the store.
