We were greeted and checked in with Ivy. The entire staff at this hotel is helpful, friendly and very accommodating. We were even able to check in 2 hours early which was great considering we had left home at 4am and were very tired.
The on-site breakfast is a plus and extremely helpful.
The location is great. The Riverwalk, the shopping centers, the Alamo are all within a few mins you can walk comfortably there. Six Flags Fiesta is 20 mins away.
I’d love to leave 5 stars but whoever was in charge of cleaning our room before our arrival seemed to have maybe skipped some corners. The sheets and pillow on the bed closest to the window smelled pretty bad. I don’t think they had been changed. The bathroom smelled of urine and I realized it was coming from the shower curtain which was pink on the inside bottom with mildew, 2-3 inches high. So, the first night I kept waking up to the stink of the sheets. My 5 yo complained too. I had every intention of notifying them the second day since we had a 3 night stay, but forgot and ended up covering the pillows up with some of our clean t shirts. I called that night to complain and the following day housekeeping came to strip the bed and yes there was big difference. These sheets smelled fresh.
The towels in the bathroom didn’t have a fresh scent either, but neither did the ones that replaced them. Towels in hotels usually smell like bleach. These were rough and stale.
The gentleman that answered when I called was very apologetic and our room was cleaned very well the following day.
What struck me was the day we checked in it smelled strongly of bleach, but in hindsight I think it was a cover up to give the illusion of clean and someone cut corners. The do not disturb sign and remote control were both sticky as well.
They also changed out the shower curtain at my request and the urine smell in the bathroom disappeared right away.
We are Hilton members and stay often at Hilton hotels, this was my first time ever having less than a 5 star experience. I’d deduct more stars because the sheets and shower curtain experience was gross but the amazing staff, Ronnie, Ivy, Elena and the gentleman who answered when I called on 3/22 at 10 or 11 pm helped make up for it. Also, whoever the housekeeper was that came to properly clean our room.
I only regret not snapping a picture of the shower curtain mildew, the thought did cross my mind, but I didn’t want to be in a stinky bathroom any longer...
Read moreThis hotel is a great location if you're wanting to be in walking distance to the Alamo, Riverwalk and other attractions. HOWEVER, there are a couple of things to watch out for...There is a nightclub across the street and if you are in certain rooms of the hotel it may wake you up in the middle of the night like it did us. We were awakened by the booming bass and it did not stop until at least 2 am. When I went down at 1am to find out what the noise was there was a not-so-sympathetic person on duty at the time. So, the night shift could use some work on dealing with people properly. The day manager, however, moved us to a different room and took $20 off the bill for the night. The other issue with this location is that the air conditioners don't work like others in hotels we stay in. We like the room kind of cool at night and we like the fan to run even when the AC is not cooling. This helps in hotels with keeping random noises from being disturbing at night. These units constantly shut off and on at night so it is rather disruptive and they don't cool very well throughout the night. This was another issue that I asked about in the middle of the same night. The woman at the desk was not really interested in helping but told me not to put it below 68 degrees and it would work better. If the room had ever cooled to 68 we would have been freezing and never needed to put it lower, but it was never 68 degrees in there. We stilled tried what she said and it never worked right. When we moved rooms the next day I thought this AC might work better but they were all the same. So, if you like to be cool at night, try somewhere else. The breakfast was good. The fitness center and pool were both on par with any hotel in this category. I would not stay here again for the reasons mentioned but I would find another hotel in the same...
Read moreAfter doing a lot of research on hotels close to the Alamo, I chose this Springhill with cautious optimism. The caution turned out to be unwarranted. Every part of the stay, from check-in to the valet to breakfast, exceeded my expectations. Outside of two rude staff members who tried to shoo people out of the pool well before closing, everyone working at the hotel was helpful and pleasant at the level you would expect at a four-star property. The room was immaculately clean and had a great view of the downtown (and one wall of the Alamo complex). The hotel itself does not sit on the Riverwalk, but is still conveniently located only a couple of blocks away from the Alamo and entrances to the Riverwalk. My only word of caution to those expecting a "sofa bed" is that you're actually going to get a trundle cot that pulls out from under the couch, rather than folding out from the top of it. This was a non-issue for me, but my kids didn't want to sleep on it because it's essentially a mattress in a drawer at floor level. Be aware that a chaotic breakfast area seems to be the norm at this hotel, so much so that they put flyers in the elevators explaining what times of day have higher crowd levels. We did visit on Memorial Day weekend, so it was probably even more chaotic than usual, but it is the only property I've ever had to wait in a queue ten minutes just to make a waffle. Even so, the breakfast staff kept everything smooth, clean, and well-stocked. When it was time to leave, valet had my car pulled out of the lot and parked in the portico in less than five minutes. For a hotel close enough to walk to everywhere in downtown San Antonio, without suffering the nosebleed prices of those directly on the Riverwalk, this property is a winner all...
