After going to La Jolla recovery and taking a look at all the failed attempts at other treatment centers, I realized there was key differences that sets La Jolla Recovery apart from the rest and because of these differences I've been able to sustain long term sobriety for the first time in my life. Some examples are; 1. Your day is mirrored like a typical work day. You get up early to go to the center (work) while at the center and with the help of the counselors, your case manager, and your therapist you get to put in a solid 8 hours of work on bettering yourself. This helps train your mind and body for a day at work, it also creates structure in your life for the first time in a long time. all of this helps you tremendously so when you leave you're prepared and have the ability to put in a solid 8 hours of work. 2. The way I get sober, might not be the way you get sober. La Jolla recovery is a 12 step program but they don't pound it in your head and make you believe its the only way you can get sober. They have a variety of groups and techniques that has helped people sustain sobriety, for example; Smart Recovery, 12 step, Na, Ha, AA .. what this does is allow people to identify what works best for them so when they leave they can continue to do those things. 3. I think this is the most important thing that separates La Jolla from the rest, they help you find purpose in life, they help you identify and accomplish goals you have set for yourself. If that means you want to go back to school? They will help you. Do you need to clear up legal problems? They will help. Do you want to find a career? They will help! They will even go as far as driving you to and from work interviews. They will also let you continue to live under their roof while you're working, which gives you the opportunity to save up money. It is also a way to find purpose in your life, which makes you feel good about yourself again. They help you become a productive member of society again and create a solid foundation for yourself that will help you sustain sobriety when you walk out those doors. Most treatment centers you go to for 30-60 days sit in a bunch of groups and when the fog finally starts to lift you're headed home to the same situation you where in before, which is a recipe for relapse. Last but not least this was the first treatment center I've been to that wasn't all about money. I cant even count how many people I knew at La Jolla recovery that where on scholarship, which means the Owner (Danny) is paying out of his personal pocket every cent of those clients treatment. La Jolla recovery staff from top to bottom truly cares and finds joy and happiness in seeing clients succeed in life. It sucks when you see people on here complaining because of how amazing this program truly is. The ones complaining are the ones that got loaded at treatment and instead of keeping them around the treatment center to affect everyone else's ability to stay sober, they get kicked out. Then those clients proceed to lie to their parents to make it seem like they did nothing wrong and it was all the treatment centers fault. They make up an elaborate story to their parents to minimize what you actually did in hopes of getting 40 dollars from them for a quick fix. Yeah I know I wrote a lot and I doubt anyone will read this all the way to the end but the fact of the matter is this program saved my life, I saw no hope for myself or a way out and thanks to Danny and the whole entire staff at la Jolla recovery because today i'm sober and equipped with the proper tools to sustain long term sobriety and the ability and confidence to be successful in all other endeavors. I didn't gain lifelong friends by going to La Jolla recovery, i gained lifelong family. PS. Stevie dukes is the man. PSS; how many treatment centers take you to concerts? College football games? Surfing? To the gym everyday? How about stock your fridge full of food weekly? or that has you living in million dollar houses by the beach where its sunny everyday.. I...
Read more— WARNING: Unsafe neglect, arrogant staff, and zero oversight I went to this place for detox and left deeply shaken. If you’re thinking about going here, read this. This is my personal experience — and it was awful.
From day one the staff’s attitude screamed arrogance and indifference. My towel was taken and I waited all day to get a replacement. I knocked, they heard me — and then three staffers locked themselves in an adjacent room, joked around, and cranked up white noise for nearly an hour and 50 minutes while I stood there needing a towel to shower. That level of deliberate ignoring felt humiliating and disrespectful — the worst possible welcome for someone in withdrawal.
The lack of oversight and basic care was dramatic. I didn’t get my alcohol-detox meds until day 3, which made my withdrawal far worse and dangerous. When meds finally arrived, staff tried to claim I’d already completed “four days” of detox — an explanation that made no medical sense and felt like they were trying to cover up neglect. It honestly felt like the doctors/staff were testing me — letting me suffer — and that’s terrifying when someone is sick and vulnerable.
There’s also an unsettling impression that management doesn’t take complaints seriously. Staff behavior, locked doors, and long delays in basic care all point to an organization that values convenience over patient safety. I even suspect their online ratings don’t match reality — but that’s my impression, not a proven fact.
Consequences I experienced: prolonged, painful withdrawal symptoms; humiliation and loss of trust; and the feeling that my safety didn’t matter. Rehab should be a place of care and oversight — this place failed on both counts.
If you’re considering this facility: ask for exact med protocols up front can’t be sure this rehab is body brokering; might be a flop house, insist on written timelines for care, and think twice before trusting their online reviews without...
