DAT Nail Salon — Local services in San Francisco

Really had high hopes for this place. I booked the deluxe pedicure online and when I got to the shop I picked my color out and the lady named Bella started to do my nails.. I picked out a pink color that had glitter to it. Bella did an okay job but she put so many layers that nail polish came out thick and chunky.. I brought this to Kats attention and she suggested I get an other color. Bummed I agreed. I reminded kat that I booked the delux and asked what that included since there was no description online for the service. Kat said it came with a long massage or a callus wrap. I told her I wanted the callus wrap. I eventually asked to not have any polish but would still wanna proceed with the callus wrap. I did ask if someone else can put my polish on since I wasn’t too fond with Bella’s work so they had someone else put the polish on and it came out better than the first time. Once the polish was on Bella came and finished my pedicure but I noticed I never got the callus wrap and I brought this to Kats attention. And she said that she wouldn’t charge me for the delux. I told Kat I booked the delux and that’s what I wanted . Kat said she couldn’t do the callus wrap since I had oils on my toes.. -asked if I can come back tomorrow. I unfortunately couldn’t . I was not asked if I was okay with downgrading my service , Kat just did it without asking me. I did persist to Kat that I wanted what I booked and she eventually said she would do it herself but she would after she was done doing someone else’s nails and that I would have to wait two hours. I agreed to wait. I was looking forward to my delux pedi but hate how many obstacles I had to go...

I am giving DAT Nail Salon a one-star review based on my experience with their lack of professionalism and common courtesy.

This was my third appointment with them. My appointment was at 4 PM. I was not sat with my technician until approx 20 min later. I had also shown up 5 min earlier per the salon's request at the time of making the online appointment.

My technician was Anna. There was no greeting, not a word. She began drilling off my previous layer of gel manicure. When she finished she got up and walked away to the back, out of sight without any explanation. I kept waiting until I realized that it had reached 40 min past my appointment time and that we had not even started the actual hard gel mani process which would take an hour+.

I went up to Kat, the owner, and let her know that I would be leaving. I explained my situation to her. She was flustered and said "Well if you wait she can still do your nails" and when I declined due to the disrespect I felt in regard to my time and the lack of communication from the technician, she said "I don't know what to say". At NO point were there any apology made - that was the least she could have offered.

This was not a one-off experience. I had waited approx 20 -30 min each time that I had been to the salon and also witnessed other clients waiting for prolonged periods of time as well as advocate for their valuable time.

They're going to have to work on their professionalism if they have any interest in providing their clients with positive experiences and treating them...

Updating review as of 7/2: My last few experiences at DAT have been pretty disappointing. They take a lot of appt on the hour and are often running behind. Most recently, it took an 1:45 minutes to remove gel and do a regular manicure, and 30 minutes for someone to even acknowledge me after sitting in a chair. Because they were running so behind, the technician used a nail file to remove all of the existing gel on my nails instead of soaking because she said it was faster. Now my nails are paper thin. The staff seems new and inexperienced. I’ve had 2 manicures/pedicures that left my cuticles bleeding and throbbing in pain. This past manicure, I declined any cuticle cutting because I was too afraid to risk it. I probably won’t be going back again. ————

DAT is the best nail salon I’ve been to. If/when I move out of the neighborhood, I’ll be most sad not to be close to this salon. The skill of each technician is unmatched.
