Think planes are a luxurious way of watching films? Then you'll love this place. The reason its never crowded is because every regular movie goer knows about the tiny screens and the horrible viewing angles. This location was originally one large screen with one or two small side theaters. It was later badly converted into a small multiplex (the main room was subdivided). But it did a reasonable business by specializing in small audience films such as imports and arty independents and keeping prices down. Subsequently the screens were subdivided further into tiny shoeboxes where the problems are even worse. There are seats that are like standing 3 feet from a wall and watching an image projected on the ceiling. Most of the rooms (with rows 5 to 10 seats wide) have the aisle down the middle of the room, meaning there are NO good seats in the entire house. These days they seldom show anything you can't stream or see in a better house, and they charge top dollar, because they put lazyboys in some of the rooms. If you go out to watch films for the big screen experience, then this is not the place to do it - you will literally have a better viewing experience on your laptop. On a date? I arrived at the theater a few minutes late to meet my spouse and proceeded to purchase my ticket and snacks from Thor, the attendant. He kindly informed me that the movie was playing in the theater to the left. As I strolled towards the designated theater, I took a moment to admire the posters for each film displayed above the door on the small screens. However, Thor followed me and rather abruptly exclaimed, "The left That's the right!" Feeling patronized, I responded, "I'm aware of that, I'm simply admiring the posters. How dare you speak to me in such a manner?"
It wasn't until I had taken my seat and unloaded the concessions I had purchased that I realized Thor's behavior had ruined my evening. I decided to exit the theater and express my dissatisfaction to him, expecting a full refund for my ticket. Thor apologized and explained that he had been having a difficult day. I replied that it was unacceptable for him to take out his frustrations on a customer who had come to the theater seeking entertainment. I then left the theater and sat in my car outside, feeling disappointed and disrespected.
A full refund for my ticket and concessions would be a step in the right direction and a chat with...
Read moreWELL...I always liked Opera Plazza but have to admit that a few things turned worse over time. The theatre is one of them... first, very small auditoriums: like 35-40 seats maximum. Very cold inside.. get a thick jacket and hat.The concession stand is ridiculously expensive and not happening at all: 1 small water bottle $4.50 !!, small pop corn $5.50 and some soda options. No Starbucks options but Peet's is around the corner so you may be able to sneak ( really!!) one inside. Ohhhh... the crew and decor makes you feel like you're in one of those old school Reno casinos...a far cry from the real ones in Vegas ( get the picture?). Other than that.. parking is metered all around and some $$$ garages.. construction work on the front Van Ness street... kinda going down hill look and feel at this moment. Not negative.. just real stuff.Hope for a turn for the...
