Shoutout to a recent reviewer for calling this out—employees in the store definitely follow you around if you have melanin in your skin. It’s happened to me every single time. I used to shop at Sephora several times a year, then once a year. Now I do NOT visit at all. I don’t even blame the employees—I’m sure they’re under pressure to prevent theft and probably get blamed when it happens. I think store employees across the country have been instructed to watch for potential shoplifters. So they follow around people they expect least retaliation from or those they feel comfortable following around without being yelled at or mistreated.

Cosmetic companies make huge profits—losing a little to theft isn’t worth making loyal customers feel unwelcome. If security is such a big concern, invest in real solutions instead of creating an environment that alienates people. Swipe-in cards, ID checks—whatever it takes. Just stop making shopping feel...

I initially went to the Arden Fair location to pick up Kat Von D's foundation and was "color matched". When I got home the color was much darker and I booked a complimentary foundation match service at EMBARCADERO. I called ahead to ask about an exchange policy and it was such a breeze. Boy...what a big difference in skill set provided by Daniel- who was very thorough and very helpful. I ended up with two primers and received a sample of Becca foundation to try for next time upon his recommendation. The atmosphere is different at this location versus several I have been to before. Perhaps it had to do with my positive encounter with Daniel who was exceptional at answering questions and making product suggestions. I am a Sephora addict and these employees turned me off completely!! First I got stalked and followed before anyone asked me if I needed help, then when i was able to get someone she obnoxiously announced throughout the whole store on her little Mic that I needed a concealer sample and got irritated by my request to try 2 concealers, a girl finally came and helped me out but to top it all off with the lack of respect, she rang me out and somehow didn't enter the concealer I bought on my profile so now after trying it and realizing it was not the right match I can't return it because they have no record of me...
