This review is LONG overdue. I’ve been a loyal Velvety fan since they opened. I lived across the street from them which was awesome (and also dangerous) as I got used to being a lady of leisure and being pampered there. The space is clean, modern and feels like a spa, not your average nail salon. The ladies who work there are very sweet, patient and do a great job! Lulu the owner always comes to supervise and to ensure the polish is perfect and you as a customer are satisfied. Velvety also prioritizes cleanliness and everything is UV treated and heat sanitized which makes me feel more secure in my health and safety. They also have a wide selection of polish (OPI, Essie, Chanel, Deborah Lippmann) and the largest selection of gel polishes I have seen compared to most salons. What I also like is that when you pick up a polish and open it, it’s not crusted over or diluted. They always clean the brush and the bottle before putting it away and they replace polishes that are too old or oxygenated rather than try to dilute and use them. My gel polish lasts for 3 weeks without chipping and I only have to get it redone because my nail beds grow out. My pedicures last a month at least.
If it tells you anything, I moved to Sacramento 2 years ago and I STILL drive down to SF to get my nails done at Velvety on a regular basis.
I keep trying to convince Lulu we need a nail salon of their caliber in Sacramento ;) as I’ve been to at least 10 places in the Sacramento area that charge the same if not more for rush jobs and poor sanitation.
Make sure to call for an appointment as it’s tough to get a seat as a walk in. The staff is scheduled for each client for an hour which means you get a quality mani/pedi and not a fast food rush job. If that’s what you need, then this isn’t the place. But if you like being relaxed, and treated well then come...
Read moreI had a very bad experience in the place ,will never come back and would not recommend to anyone!! I was very excited about the nail salon by the pics they posted ; however, if you look at the pictures closely, they are not very good. I did the simple gel color, but it is not even at all. This place is not worth the hype!! They are not that professional as they claimed. Lulu seems very talented ,however she is nowhere close to nail artist.I have got my nail done in lots of Japanese nail salon in new York and LA , a simple way to exam a nail artist is to look at the straight line and all the detail works. Lulu 's straight line only gets 5 out of 10. And she has the thing against Asian people, she is very race discriminated! I don't understand where is that coming from as she is native Chinese and has that strong accent. I would not recommend the place if you are Asian! I would rather spend $30 bucks at any other store than $40 in...
Read moreNot impressed. I asked for my nails not to be cut short, yet she filed my left foot WAY shorter than my right foot. Polish is uneven. Receptionist didn’t care at all when I expressed disappointment. I would have rather donated $30 to the homeless man we saw shooting up his own leg on our walk to the 38 than to...
