Old Time Photos — Local services in Seaside Heights

Overall, I had a really horrible experience at Old Time Photos in Seaside.

First, the good. My bachelorette party group went on Friday night 7/28 and and spoke to an employee, young with shoulder length blondish hair who was very sweet, clear with pricing, and hyped up the group. We talked to her about the vision, she said she loved it, understood what we were going for, and told us which package most closely fit that package. I would rate her service 5 stars. Unfortunately it was really busy- she recommended we try back in 20 minutes, but it was even busier then. Thus we decided to try the next night.

Saturday 7/29 we return. The employees are busy explaining packages to other groups. We cut in and mention that we’ve gotten the spiel, understand pricing, and want a certain package, so they bring us back to the dressing room.

There are 5 of us, and the back is just a room with two “dressing rooms” and a closet where they keep the costumes, four lockers with no locks. The dressing rooms consist of a tension rod, a very thin curtain that blows when the door opens with shower curtain loops holding it to the rod. The one employee back there I would also rate 5 stars, with a septum piercing, short curly hair and tattoos. She was helpful getting everyone costumes and accessories they’d like and getting our corsets on. The other two employees started to be very pushy about getting us out fast. Since there were only two dressing rooms, some of the girls started getting undressed in the open space. The employees started to push us to all go on in one dressing room together. I’m not comfortable getting half naked in front of anyone, and should be able to have some privacy. I had to be very firm and basically yell for them to give me a moment of privacy. The employees on the outside would tell people to come in the back, with no regard to the half naked women getting dressed outside the curtain. So in come a group with two men while some of us are behind very thin curtains being pressured to be fast or let our group come in, and some not fully dressed out in the open. One member of my group was holding her corset up against her chest to cover herself with these random men walking in. Once we’re almost all ready to head out to get pictures taken, the petite employee with big curly hair opened the door all the way to talk to another employee, physically squishing the bride behind the door and trying to push the door open more. I snapped that there’s someone squished behind the door, utterly appalled by the lack of disrespect in the dressing room. As we leave a mother and two little girls come in. I’m horrified for them, praying that the employees don’t send men in the back to walk in on them with no regard for privacy like how they treated us.

The petite girl with big curls instructs us to get on the bar and cross our legs. She talks to us like we’re the biggest inconvenience in the world. When we’re in position, another employee comes over and they have a full blown conversation about work drama. We’re all waiting on the bar just listening, in disbelief with the horrible customer service. When their conversation is done, the curly hair girl comes over and starts handing us props. She doesn’t ask us about the “vision”, anything we’re interested in, tell us how many photos- nope, just hands us stuff. She comes over with guns. They’re real guns that have been altered to be safe, but I felt really uncomfortable and said aloud “I’d rather not hold that” and she put it in my hand anyway. The person next to me also very clearly shows discomfort and does not put her hand out to grab it- the employee sets it in her hand, saying nothing. I ask for some other props, she gives it to us. Most of my friends are not outspoken and tend to remain quiet, but they even were saying right then that she was horrible, and we wish we had the girl from Friday take pictures or the one nice girl in the dressing room. We went there yesterday and went with the Victorian theme. Alex was friendly, upfront with pricing and very professional. He was very respectful when directing us and paid attention to detail. We told him upfront that we were purchasing the digital collection so he made sure he took many different poses and changed out props and positioning. I have had these done many times over the years and he was the first person to ever ask if there was any specific pose or shot done and that was impressive. I did have a few shots that I wanted and he was very accommodating. I loved that he didn't rush us and made sure we were completely satisfied. Afterwards he took the time to go through all the images and never pressured us or rushed us. He informed us of all of our options with regards to pricing for prints, frames, mats, etc. He took so many great photos that I ended up purchasing prints with & w/o mats as well as 5 framed photos. Great experience!!!!! My daughter Ashley, her godparents and I went here on June 5th and were greeted by a warm and friendly staff. The photographer Michael was the BEST!!!! Here is my personal comment to Michael: 'Thank you for yesterday when you were taking pictures of my daughter Ashley. You were patient with her and she was all smiles. I didn't feel rushed or as "just another customer". You may say "oh it was nothing" but to me it was everything. You see, Ashley is only 8 months old (5 months adjusted), she was born 12 weeks early and only weighed 1lb 7oz at birth - so every day is a blessing because some preemies either don't survive or have lots of complications. She does have a hole in her heart, but the Cardiologist is monitoring it and I try to live each day with her to the fullest. Yesterday was our first time to Seaside Heights, but it won't be the last."
