My daughter and I just got back from this store a few minutes ago on a journey to find her some beach sandals, and I gotta say, what a breath of fresh air! After going by several other souvenir clothing stores stocked with identical selections of crass sweatshirts and novelty stickers, we were filling like we struck out. Not that there's anything wrong with that kind of merch, it's just not my daughter's thing to get flip-flops with, I dunno, Calvin peeing on something. The only other option we'd seen up to that point were $75 sandals which... no, thanks. We kept going after the second or third novelty clothing shop and thankfully stumbled on West of the Moon. First thing when we went in there, we were greeted with a friendly person asking how we were doing. After the pleasantries, we asked about kids sized flip-flops and were pointed straight to them. Another person (the owner?) came up to help find the right size, told us about where them and their origins, and offered up any other help we'd need. They even recommended another store nearby (further down still) if the size wasn't right and told us when they closed if we wanted to check the other place and come back later. We didn't, of course. My daughter liked the flip-flops a lot, they fit, and were actually a good price. Overall, the whole experience left a great impression (I don't write reviews often, so...).
Our specific experience aside, I can say that I saw a lot of what I'd call electric items, art (maybe?), and clothing items in there. It'd be fair to call West of the Moon a place to get souvenirs in Seaside, though not necessarily a Seaside souvenir shop. Kinda like a place to get a conversation piece but not a cheap plastic tchotchkes, if that...
Read moreMUST CHECK OUT THIS STORE IF YOU VISIT SEASIDE. UNIQUE. AND DIFFERENT. A REAL GEM WITH SUPERB CUSTOMER SERVICE. Tundra, thee AMAZING employee who helped us was absolutely fantastic. We returned multiple times to the store as we decided on the art pieces we wanted to buy from them and she was able to answer all of our questions. She was very careful packaging it up for us and although she was not fond of heights continued to make it up and down that ladder while we sorted through the different pieces. She informed us that the store owner travels to other countries to support local business and help with impoverished areas. Fun to look at. Everything is handmade. Definetly take the time to check this store out!
This same review is also on Yelp. I review on both sights and am to lazy to word them...
Read moreNever felt more uncomfortable shopping in my life. The lady who apparently was the owner ridiculed me for buying other Alpaca products at a shop across the street. Talked poorly of the other business owners on the street which was a complete turn off, coming from a small town business owner. Was unprofessionally chewing her microwaved lunch while screaming across the store at people who picked up items and didn’t put them directly back in the place they were picked up at. Anyone who works retail knows that having to put items back is part of your JOB. Would never purchase a thing here. Save your money and go across the street to the friendly guy who actually gave us a free gift with...
