I was quoted $130 over the phone, then told it would $260 in person. I offered him the service fee only ($29) and he said that he could do the work for $200-- but that was the lowest. Ok, so I said $130. He counter-offered $160 plus tax. Be prepared to haggle.
After arguing down to $160, the "professional" locksmith did a terrible job. He stripped screws, and didn't even put the screws into the door. I could turn the entire lock with my bare hand.
I pointed out the errors to the "locksmith" and he told me that he had installed a lock that was incompatible with the door... and that he "wanted to tell me the lock would never work, but then forgot."
Why he installed a lock that would never work was something that he could not explain. Eventually he said "I thought that is what you wanted." I am not making this up. He literally said that he thought I wanted a lock installed that would never work and that I could turn with my fingers. I laughed to his face.
After the work was done the "locksmith" asked me if I wanted to add a tip of 15% 20% or 25%. This was $26, $35 or $44. I politely said I would pay the normal price (that I had to argue about).
After complaining, I eventually talked with the owner. He freely admitted that his "professional" installed a lock that "was incompatible with the door." He insisted that he had to make money on the transaction, and could't offer me a full refund.
I just went to Home Depot, bought a new set of locks, and installed them myself. If you can turn a screwdriver. and can read at a 3rd grade level, then you can install your own door locks at home.
Here is the best line, told to me by the owner: "I have a lot of experience with disputed credit card bills."
Yep, I'm sure they do. Because they do terrible work and try to scam you out of...
Read moreMy partner and I called to have our locks replaced at 1:30 in the morning, because someone had broken into the place where we keep our spare key and walked away with the key. We were quoted $29 and a technician was sent out promptly. Both of us were very tired and shaken up by the events and relieved to have this taken care of. The stress was not to be relieved however. The locksmith came into our home, kept leaving the doors wide open, hardly spoke any words to us and walked all over our carpets with his dirty shoes. When he was getting ready to leave we checked the doors. The front knob was loose and almost falling off. It also did not work. He said it was broke. And not to worry because we could just use our dead bolt. He blamed it on an old door knob and a spring fell out. He then proceeded to tell us the charge. Over $200 for a broken knob. When we told him he needed to fix what he just broke, he became very argumentative and said “everyone just wants things for free.” As two womxn who have had their home violated by a thief and to now have an even worse security problem on our hands was terrifying. Eventually the technician “fixed” the issue and left with our payment at 3 in the morning. It’s now been a few weeks and the door keeps getting worse. I am currently writing this review as we sit in our driveway in the cold with our dogs because we are locked out of our house due to a broken door knob. The customer service also leaves a great deal to be desired. Each person we’ve talked to has been short and rude about us needing help. I would really do your research before using this company. Maybe for simple car doors or something. But I would not recommend this...
Read moreWe left our house around 9:15 am & immediately realized we had locked ourselves out. We weren’t going to be home until around 12:45 so we took the opportunity to be proactive & call anyways & make a 1:00 PM appointment so the locksmith could be here right away to let us in. (We have a 1 year old & it would be right around his nap time) Not to mention lunch time!! The locksmith showed up a few minutes late-not a huge deal. He went to get his tool (not sure why he didn’t already have it) & he broke it. He then had to call a co-worker & leave to go get a new tool. He did not arrive back until 2 PM. My infant & I had to sit in our car waiting for an hour...all while not having lunch, missing nap time, & having afternoon plans to prepare for. We called to ask if we could get some sort of discount for our inconveniences. I kindly acknowledged that this was an accident & that accidents happen but that it had greatly affected our afternoon ... the dispatcher seems to have ZERO customer service experience. She huffed & puffed as I explained the difficulty of the situation. I felt unheard, uncared for as a paying customer & honestly just completely disrespected. She couldn’t understand why in the world we would ask for a discount given that it was an accident out of his control. I explained (again) that I understand what happened initially was out of the locksmiths control ...BUT how they handled it moving forward in customer service WAS in their control. She continued to (rudely) argue with me and eventually I just hung up the phone. We will never be using their services again. So disappointed in the lack of customer...
