Always a sucker for some good jerky, this was an easy detour for me. While my party patiently waited, I chatted with the very friendly and helpful young man, who had obvious enthusiasm and knowledge of the product. Cheerfully he cut me small slices of various jerkys to sample, which were all so tasty, they were obviously going to result in a sale. Settled on the “World’s Best Sweet and Spicy Elk”. I often see the “World’s Best” tag applied to many things, but I would find this one tough to argue against. So. Good.

After exchanging money for delicious jerky, I offered my compliments to the smoker and spice master, asking the nice young man to pass them on. He gave me the biggest grin and said, “That’s my dad.”

This is very cool family-owned and operated jerky store that is kind-of an institution in Sedona. It's been open for fourteen years, having been started by Buck Thornton, a charismatic Indiana Jones-lookalike and his wife, a former Nevada beauty queen and Tom Jones-backup dancer. You can also find their friendly and personable grandson working there. They offer dozens of types of jerky in exotic game meats such bison, elk, kangaroo, salmon and ahi tuna (the ahi tuna is our absolute favorite); all in delicious flavors such as teriyaki, hot-and-spicy and sweet-and-spicy. This place is great!!! After moving to Flagstaff, I began visiting Sedona frequently. One day, I stumbled upon this family owned shop, and was blown away. The customer service is always awesome, and the jerky is incredible!! There are so many flavors and different selections of meat. I love how they also sell cool trinkets, jewelry, and purses.
